  • 1 FREAKING DOLLAR

Again at the local food mart.

AW: awesome worker (don't know if he was a manager, but I hope he is)
    IRD: Insane ranty dude.

Was waiting at the help desk to find out if they had a certain brand of cookies (the store is that big, I couldn't find it, but I'm randomly blind when faced with 50 different brands) when a guy in front of me starts raging about how one of the cashiers who was checking him out had failed to process the fact that the box of pasta was on clearance (read has a dented corner etc), so instead of being 1.10$, it was supposed to be 1$ even. She didn't mark it, so the guy was raging that she hadn't given it to him for free, and that she should know better, that she's worked here for a long time, and was making the line run slowly by not giving him his full, one dollar rebate.

IRD: "I DEMAND THAT YOU MAKE HER COME UP HER AND APOLOGIZE AND THEN YOU REPRIMAND HER!"
AW: "I am not going to do that. I'm giving you your rebate now."
IRD: "THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! SHE NEEDS TO BE TRAINED BETTER! WHEN SHE MAKES A MISTAKE SHE SHOULD BE PUNISHED! MAKE HER COME UP HERE AND APOLOGIZE NOW!!!"
AW: "Sir, I will speak to her about it later, but I am not making her come up here now."
IRD: "SHE NEEDS TO BE TRAINED! SHE MUST BE REPRIMANDED!"

Myself and another customer were moving closer at this point, I suspect the other guy was more threatening, but he glanced at us and shut up, glaring at the guy. When he handed him back his now free box of 1 dollar pasta, he backed up, then hurled the box at the worker's head, then stormed out before anyone could move.

    1. Seriously, she's not a dog. That voice you were using suggests you think she is.
    2. IT'S A FREAKING ONE DOLLAR BOX OF PASTA.

Reprimanded? Over 10 cents? Seriously? If I were in line, I'd have said, "Here's the 10 cents if you go away."

Who needs a discount over a crumpled corner on a $1 box of pasta? It's not as if it's going to go bad.

Yet another example of something being damaged enough to warrant a discount, but not damaged enough to be unsaleable.

How ridiculous. I can understand pointing out the error, even for just 10 cents, but no need to treat everyone like that.

What a douche. And he lost his free pasta.

That guy was looking for something to rant about. He has a pathological need to take out his anger on someone and humiliate them, and when the manager didn't comply, he didn't get his fix, so he got even angrier.

And that's my ten-cent psychological diagnosis.

Yeah, I figured that was it, but the tone he was using, like she was a dog... just made me and, from the sound of it, the other guy who was coming over to deal with him angry.

And after throwing the box of pasta at the worker, I seriously hope the idiot gets a life ban at that store. Nobody needs a customer like that.

And this is why they were NOT going to summon her.

If they had done that she could have gone to HR and filed a lawsuit about being forced to submit to actual abuse - verbal and perhaps physical - from a customer.

If something was marked down when I worked at a grocery store, they would be a big black line through the barcode so you had to ring it up at whatever price.

Good for the manager! That guy has some serious anger issues. I hope the next time he comes into the store he gets promptly escorted out!

As far as a punishment did he think she was a dog and her nose should be rubbed in it? No employee should ever be punished or reprimanded in public for other people to see, especially in front of the customer! I had a manager do the same thing for me when I first started in retail many moons ago. They wouldn't leave until they saw the manager "take care of me" and the manager said "I will not reprimand her in front of you or anyone else, so either pay for your items or leave the store!"
