  • Bad Nails Day

Saturday, Mom and I went to get our nails done for a wedding reception we had to go to that night.

Normally, we stick to the little salons at the local mall, where I used to live. We learned our lesson what happens when we stray and go to the Regal salon in Wal-Mart.

They were shortstaffed, which is understandable. What wasn't understandable, was that they'd bark at anyone who came in to pick the color they wanted for their nails and take a seat....then all of a sudden, one that was doing nails or a pedicure would just up and disappear for minutes at a time and come back. Normally, there is a language barrier at these nail salons, but nowhere else have I gone where they actually scream at people who have to ask them to repeat themselves.

We should have realized, after we first walked in, two other ladies walked in, the guy running the show barked what sounded like "SIT ON DA COWWWWW" and they asked him to repeat himself and he kept screaming "COWWW!" and pointing at the couch.

And, I was forced to pay before my nails were done. I just knew if I stiffed, they'd probably pull some more random disappearing acts, so I gave the lady a couple of bucks and magically, she didn't keep disappearing while doing my nails, but it was still crap.

    Never again, never again.

Been there, done that . . . have the t-shirt.

Went to Regal one time . . . and this was at a WM store on the far side of town from me. Ended up spending nearly an hour and a half there, and never went back (damn they were SLOWER than the seven year itch there!)

I've even had that happen at other salons, too. There's one in the shopping center where I work that I would go to (it was easier just to walk there and then go home after work rather than stopping somewhere else) but one day, I was told it would be about a 10 minute wait, so I sat down and waited. It wasn't that busy and they had 2 or 3 people working that day, IIRC.

Next thing I know, fifteen minutes had went by (I checked my phone to be sure) and nobody even noticed I was still there, so I got up and left without a word. Didn't feel like I had to announce I was leaving b/c of the wait . . . just walked out and never went back there - I don't even recommend them now.

Another place I went to for several years got so bad with wait times, I had to quit going there about a year and a half ago. Right after the SB mess, I went on a Sunday afternoon . . . .only one person working and the place was packed! I told the girl I'd come back another time and left.

Flash forward to Tuesday and I got stuck there waiting (even though they had several people working that day) for over an hour - and 15 of that was b/c of some airhead, giggling group of teen girls who thought it cool to wait until they were called to pick out their nail color . . . and proceeded to hold up everybody. And the employee, instead of passing over them and taking the girl who came in before me, waited for these girls to quit their antics.

I got so mad that the icing on the cake for me was another girl sashayed in and they took her right on the spot! I let the manager know I was not happy with that, as it wasn't good customer service IMO and walked out the door.

At least the place I go to now is pretty decent . . . they do get busy but they've always got a spot waiting.

Yeah, both little places at the mall get super busy, but they keep it organized and don't skip over people, or sqwack at people over impatience.

I'll use the gas to drive 15 miles for a $25 pedicure any day after this awful Regal experience.

I go to a place near me, but I will try and go Sat morning when they first open, as its generally not at all busy then. I think the most I've had to wait there is about 20 mins, but like i said, I try and time it when I think it will be slow, as i hate waiting. sometimes I'll go on my way home after work, but that's hit or miss.

I usually go to a place that is open on Sundays. The first time I went, I was going to an interview the next day and wanted to make an impression. I got a man who did a piss poor job of setting the tips on my natural nails by not taking his time and a couple of them ended up crooked. They were crooked enough so that by the time I went back to get a fill, the woman who took me ended up taking off the whole set and redoing the job without question when I described the man who had done the original set.

And this is why I'm willing to spend the money on the local high-end spa to get my nails done. Full package - UV manicure with spa add-on. They're awesome women who never keep me waiting and deserve every penny of their tip, and then some. I don't screw around with my luxuries. I have so few of them that I'm willing to splurge.
