First off, I went to uni with a prince, and he would have *never* acted that way. [Well, he was a bit of a prig, but he would unbend after he got to know you and be less formal] as his father would have had him brought home and flogged [it happened to one of his younger brothers]

Actually I think the overformalness was mainly because he didn't want to be befriended just so someone could use him or get stuff from him. He was actually a bit on the shy side though. Pity he wasn't the one in line for the throne, but he is actually some sort of minister and I think he was a governor of a region for a while.
