  • Self check attendant more interested in flirting with stockers

...than staying at her post. At least I assume that's what she was doing.

I was shopping at my local warehouse grocery store with the number 4 in the name, and went to use the self checkout. In spite of doing everything correctly, when I put my own bag on the carousel, it flaked and called for an attendant.

She was nowhere to be seen. I walked back to the store side of the checkouts, I looked around the other end. Nowhere. A cashier at one of the regular checkouts saw my problem and came over to help me.

Self Check Attendant Girl reappears and says to Helpful Cashier "You doing my job now?"

    HC: "Nope, just helping out."
Me: "Yes, because you weren't here."

HC headed back to his register

Me: "Thanks for coming over from your register to help me!"
SCAG: frowns, crosses her arms and glares at me until I leave

Ok, granted I was a little catty; I have a tooth that's bothering me that I can't get looked at until Monday and my Mom's computer just died.

But she didn't make any kind of apology, choosing instead to be childish and unprofessional. So I stopped at the service desk and tattled on her. And left a comment on their website.

Sorry, honey, it's called a work ethic.

I think she's just pissy she got caught not at her post.
Having said that, I'd probably have done the same as you.

I don't think you were catty at all. You were telling it like it is, and she so deserved it for not being at her post. If she wasn't spotted in the time it took you to look all up and down the registers, she was no where near her assigned post.

I would've commented on it as well to the service desk, I also probably would've been a lot more scathing to the girl when she got all snippy with the cashier who was... oh I don't know... being a good servan-- *cough * -- I mean employee .

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

I had something like that happen once. My wife and I were doing our regular grocery shopping, so we checked out at one of the regular checkouts. The cashier was this girl who was BSing with one of her friends while she was trying to work. She was completely ignoring the customers, and was very slow at scanning stuff because she was paying more attention to her conversation than to her job. The customer in front of me had a stack of coupons, which she missed because she wasn't paying attention, and the customer left without noticing.

When she got to me, she noticed that stack of coupons and asked me if they were mine. I said they belonged to the last customer, and she just kind of shrugged and put the coupons aside. Then she went back to chatting with her friend, and slowly scanning my items. After what I had just seen, I made sure she did my coupons, and sure enough, she missed them until I said something.

I probably should have complained to a manager, but at that point I just wanted to get the hell out of there.
