  • Shooting on the interstate

So, I was blissfully asleep last night, and Hubs kindly caused me to freak out a little bit this morning when I woke up. He asked if I remembered what time he came in. I said no. He apparently was an hour late, and this is why.

Fortunately for Hubs, the shooting part happened shortly before he left work...I shudder to think if it had happened during his commute! Apparently, some psychopath was on an overpass with a rifle last night, shooting at cars. Thanks to this, Hubby's relief was late, and the interstate was shut down. Hubby said traffic was at a standstill (exactly what you want to be in when there's a maniac on the loose, I'm sure.)

Hubby tried to get off the interstate, but the road he chose was shut-down as well (according to Twitter, which is the only source on this I have at this early an hour, that road was actually the one with the overpass the shooter was on, though Hubs had no way of knowing it at the time). Finally, the interstate reopened and he could make it home.

And of course, he said nothing about it when he got home...he waited for me to get up. I'm just a bit freaked right now that he was "out there" while all this was going on, and if it had happened later it could have been during his commute.

That's really spooky, glad hubs is ok.

I just wish in such situations the authorities would get out accurate information quickly to get people away from this and not onto closed roads where they either become targets or start to panic...

I'm glad your husband is safe!!! And I hope they catch whoever was doing that.

That happened to my family once. Our window was shot out on the minivan. It was the very back window passenger side. I was in the middle reclined in a captain's chair passenger side and had *just* sat up and leaned forward to tell my mom something or my face would have been covered in glass. Thankfully, no one was hurt even in the other cars they shot at. One family with two little kids in the back had Their front passenger window shot out. The mom had reclined the chair, thankfully, or she would have been in big trouble. Another car had their tire shot.

It ended up being a couple of 11 year old boys who got bored with shooting at rabbits. The cops showed up at their school, marched into their class, and put the fear of God in them. From what I hear, they were shaking and bawling in class they were so freaked out.

So glad your hubby made it home safe . .

We've had our share down here with people going stupid at random vehicles.

One incident in particular stands out: Michael Hayes. He went off on a shooting spree in the middle of a country road one night in July 1988 (Forsyth Co, NC) and shot at passing vehicles.

Four people were killed, 6 (including himself) injured. Hayes spent time in a mental facility but is currently free.

That's very scary! He may have not wanted to disturb your sleep, though. I can't imagine you'd have been able to sleep if he told you right when he came home.

That happened in Indiana as well, leaving one dead. Turned out to be a 17 year old who did it.

That is it. I haven't been getting any days off from work recently with Other MOD on vacay, so I've been working everyday and on-call 24/7, and it seems every CW has something to call about during their shift, so...I haz been very burned out and sleep deprived (but that's a whole other thread).

I remember once north of Marysville, I was in stop-and-go traffic, in the middle of three lanes. I noticed no-one was coming down from the north. I figured it was a wreck blocking all the traffic. Turns out it was one van...surrounded by State Patrol vehicles, and officers using said vehicles as shields while they had rifles and shotguns pointed at the van. On one hand, I was glad there was an SUV between me and the van. On the other hand, I felt worried for the family in said SUV. No bullets came flying while we passed by, fortunately. I never did hear anything about that one in the news, either...

Though this latest one that made Hubs late was in the news. No injuries, but they didn't catch the guy either, meaning he's still out there...
