  • Pet Store suck

I was shopping for things for my aquarium when I heard the end of this conversation.

I overheard a customer demanding a fish after telling the employee it was going to die or be abused.
The employee stood her ground and said that knowing the animal was going to be put in an unsafe enviromnent she was required to deny the sale.
That woman got her panties twisted like a haystack in a tornado and walked out in a huff bitching and whining the whole way.
I think the EW was going to complain about poor customer service but seeing a group of 5 people staring at her like she was a pile of steaming shit they just stepped in - might have made her reconsider.
I really like the employee in question she is knowlegable and helpful - if EW had tried to raise a stink, I would have backed the employee 100% and by the look of it I was not alone.

She told the employee she knew the fish would be in an unsafe environment and still expected the employee to sell it to her?!

what a ass sniffer. The woman wanted the employee to sell her the fish even though she knew the animal would be in an unsafe environment? Granted some fish may not be that intelligent (only running on basic instinct for survival) that does not mean it deserves to be treated horribly.. they still feel pain like us. that woman should not be around ANY animal. I once had 2 chinese fighting fish (Mario and Luigi) and the only way I would let anyone take care of them is if i KNEW for a fact the person knew what they were doing and NOT to let the fish together at ANY time. (i had a small tank with a divider in the middle.)
NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the customer

yeah but most stores sell feeder fish, guppies, comet goldfish, and ruby red minnows(not good for snakes because they contain an enzyme that destroys thiamine)
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I missed the part where she said what she was going to do with the animal but from the tone of the employee it was not a normal request.
The store in question does have feeder fish.
Considering it took place near the betas might have something to do with them...

Some pet stores also won't sell mice or rats if they know they are going to be fed to a snake. Found that I'm to report any employee who does sell one without asking for why I want it, in fact.

That "lady" needs her brain swapped with the fish, for surly it is smarter! There was a reason I talked my son out of his "pet fish stage," and that's because I know the poor things would be dead, because I am not good with fish! Not even the fake fish live long around me!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

                  Employee,

And good for you for being willing to back the employee, too. There is far too much cruelty in the world, it's good to see folks standing up for the animals.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

My guess is she wanted a salt water fish for a freshwater tank...or vice versa.

No the place in question only carries freshwater fish.
Its a general petstore not a fish specific one.

Idk why anyone would buy pet fish for feeders. Feeder fish are less than 50 cents a fish. Pet fish are $2-a couple hundred. Same with mice. Baby pinks and feeder mice are much cheaper than mice bred to be pets.

And there's our answer. Mystery solved. She wanted to put 2+ betas in the same small tank without a divider. Betas are also known as "Siamese Fighting Fish" because they will enter a fight to the death when put in the same, little tank. This is why they are typically kept in those little cups. They can be kept together if you put them in a big tank where they can both claim their own territory. Some people get a little 2 gal tank, pop two pretty little beta fish in, and suddenly one is dead and the other is missing fins, scales, and eyes.

I third that guess. I myself just got a beautiful Beta, which is in its own tank which I think is either a 5 or 10 gallon tank. Nice set up for it. It loves me. As for the SC...some people need to be treated the way they think it's okay to treat the fish/animals. Stupid wench! Glad the employee stood her ground!

                              beta fight i guess?

The first rule of Fish Fight Club is you don't talk about Fish Fight Club?

Well to be honest, I wasn't really picturing feeding a snake some fish either. I just wondered if you were allowed to feed one animal to another cos... i know people do it with snakes and mice.
