  • My friend at a Halloween store

My friend posted on her fb page that she took her kids to a Halloween store. That they had a great time trying on costumes and scaring each other. That is was good, free fun.

I did a face palm. Employees have enough to do and worry about with people treating a store like a playground. We couldn't tell people to leave while they were doing that because they might buy something. Of course they never did. More than half the time they just left the mess there. She isn't the type to leave a mess so at she cleaned after her kids, but come on.

I know people who do this with normal stores. They go and try on a range of clothes with no intent to ever buy them, they just want to see how they look in new clothes. They usually leave a big mess in changing rooms and such as well.
You seem to harbor barbaric tendencies. I suggest you visit a physician at your earliest convenience.

Oh! Oh! Double points if they're taking cell phone pics of each other while laughing maniacally!

Don't have a link (saw it in "dead tree" format), but this weekend's "Hi and Lois" touches on this subject.

yeah pretty much. just treating a store like a playground vs actually buying something never really helps a company out. i mean at that point you're not really a customer because ... customers buy things.

That & it can scare off paying customers in the process.

I get very stressed in loud, crowded areas, so I've walked out of shops where people are larking around rather than get in a stressed out ball of rage & take it out on the first person to look at me wrong.

Every since I got a smart phone, when Mrs. IA is clothes shopping I just find a chair, pull out the smart phone and either play a game or read a book. The biggest problem is finding a place to sit in some of those stores.

We take our little one to the Halloween store just to look and check out the animatronic figures there. But we never do it at closing time and we never leave a mess. Little one just likes it when the figures move and startle him. He giggles like mad and moves on to the next one. Does this make us bad too ?

At the store I worked at, a Party "Town". We had a system where you had to ask for a costume, then someone would call it back and that person would run it out. Then trying it could be a wait for the restroom, but generally causing extra work and buying nothing is the problem. As a teenager at the store, I probably would have snuck your kid a free balloon for being soo cute.

I can't imagine working in a Halloween store, they are ALWAYS a mess. And it does scare off potential paying customers because well, I'm not sure I'd want to put on a mask or something if it's already been on someone's sweaty, snotty face.

Our costume area is pretty much a mess from the time it gets set up to the time everything hits the clearance bins.
