  • Talk about chutzpah....

Ok, so I went down to my local Biscuits for breakfast today and heard this from one of the staff. It was so outrageous I just had to post it.

Apparently, about a couple months ago, there was an accident at the store. An old woman tried to park in a spot directly in front of the doors and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes. She jumped the curb, smashed in the front doors, part of the front windows, and demolished a good part of the front of the dining room.
Now, here's where the suck comes in. After they got her out of the car, and established that she wasn't badly hurt, started the process of calling the police, insurance, etc., she wanted to be seated. That's right. The woman who had just destroyed a good chunk of the restaurant wanted to be seated and have breakfast anyway! And what's more, she got angry and started to argue when they told her, um, no, the restaurant is now closed until repairs are made since now there's a gaping hole where the doors and front part of the dining room were. Apparently it took some doing to get her to leave. Talk about chutzpah!

But she had the best seat in the house!

I'm surprised she didn't just roll down her window and order. After all, she was in the dining room!

She definitely took "drive-thru" literally, didn't she?

We had someone do that at the Blockbuster I used to work at. She accidentally hi the gas instead of the brakes, drove through the front of the store, and then just got out to turn in her movies like nothing happened.

i think the only thing more entitled would have been if she tried to blame them for putting a building in her way.

or if she called corporate (or whined on PFB) about the lack of service

That happened to the hair salon that I go to. Woman - in a Prius - drove right through the front of the building, destroying both the front of the salon and the business next door.

Salon took it as an opportunity to remodel though.

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

remodel indeed... especially since the costs are going to be covered by the insurance (drivers & their own combined I assume).

Yup! It looks nice now, much more open because they put in a nice big window (because I think they figure if someone does it again a window is easier to repair than a wall.)

Though I'm still wondering how this lady did it. The Prius is not exactly the model of "get-up-and-go" for cars, it is really one of those build-up-momentum over the course of time (kind of like DK or Bowser in Mario Kart 64.)

I had someone drive through the front of C-Store, trashing the checkout counter, the registers, and one of the cashiers in the process. She called the complaint line the next day asking for free stuff because the store called the police and she had to spend time talking to them while she was upset.

FYI - Cashier turned out okay. Had manager bring flowers to her while I filled out all of the paperwork and supervised the instalaltion of the plywood over the windows.

but ya we had someone drive into an apartment here once. they claimed the kid took it out of park or something like that. sounded fishy though.

she's upset because she had to talk to the police? what, your company was just suppose to ignore that she broke stuff and injured someone? Fuck that shit

                          Good god.

I'm so glad the cashier turned out okay. I trust that she was sent to a doctor regardless of how she thought she felt?

                          3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.

Something similar happened not quite a year ago at the one across the street from my house . . . except the boy totaled another vehicle and sent 2 people to the hospital.

Took the beauty shop a week and a half for repairs before they could reopen.

I did not give the driver any compensation. This was one of the few times that I denied someone compensation that my boss didn't question me about.

Her manager insisted that she take an ambulance ride to the hospital. She was checked out for a concussion, and released when it turned out negative. Just some bumps, bruises, and scrapes, and she was back to work the next week.

Probably the only not-awesome thing about how C-Store handled it is that I was not allowed to assist her in filling out her workers comp forms, and it took about a month for her to get reimbursed for her lost wages. Pretty good for workers comp in general, I'm told, but most of my employees literally lived week-to-week.
