  • A Day at Workers Comp School

I was sent to Workers Comp school today to get recertified for another year. There was a woman there that was a complete SC. She came in and looked around the room. She went and sat down at the end of a table and looked around the room again. She got up and left the room. While she was gone more people came in (It was a packed room) She came back in and got very irrate because someone came in and sat beside her (It was a very packed room) She went up to the speakers table and started whinning about having to sit beside someone she did not know. She demanded that they sign off that she attended and let her leave. She was told to sit down and take the class to get recertified and they would sign her papers. She whinned "But this room is too packed, I don't want someone sitting beside me" She stood there whinning for 15 minutes. They did not give in to her. She picked up her stuff and left. I guess no certification for her.

I don't want to sound like an idiot but there's a workers comp school? To be on it or be the one giving it out?

And that woman was a big baby. Who cares if you have to sit next to a stranger? Get over it. What a weirdo.

Eh... I know the feeling, that acute inflammation of the personal space bubble... but one of two things has to be done if she wants to take the course. Either she sees a psychiatrist and gets a special dispensation to take the class in some other format for reasons of her mental health, or she sucks up and deals with it.

Where I am, if you go to Workers Comp school you get extra credits on your Workers Comp to lower the rates. I live on the border of two states. One state requires you to go one day every two years and the other requires half day once a year. It is a real good deal for contractors to keep their rates low. You learn about safety training in the workplace, what to do (form wise) in case of an accident and any new law changes since the last class. The all day one is very interesting and very helpful. The half day one to me is a waste of time, but it helps the company out with lower rates.
