Reading the paper today, someone held up a mall store near me yesterday. After hearing word of a gunman being inside the mall, the mall was locked down, cops called, shoppers and employees were escorted out. You know, what you'd consider pretty standard procedure for something like that.

Well, the newspaper made mention of several people who could be seen and heard outside several different entrances of the mall, pleading with the cops to let them in through the mall b/c they happened to be parked on the other side.

They wanted to walk through the mall where a gunman was hiding for the convenience of getting to their car......

I often maintain that Darwin has to find new and interesting methods of selection, as everything is being bubblewrapped and made 'safer' these days.

Ah, yes I heard about that at work. That Mall is about 40 min from my mall, so we were on the alert. It just sounded strange though. Why go to a small fast food joint rather than a closer, easier or juicier target? Sounds like it could have been a former employee, someone with a grudge, etc.

Could have let the customers in after they signed a waiver releasing the mall of all liability in the event of their death.

I thought the same. The only thing I could think of was "curly fries".....

I very much agree with you. Herd mentality is scary.



ETA: It was employees. A guy clocked out off his shift, came back through a service area and handed the cashier (who was his accomplice) a note saying youre being robbed. He had a gun on him. Theyve been caught. Guess it wasnt the allure of curly fries after all.

I saw it on the news, and I know exactly which mall you're talking about. I've been there a few times recently, because I have an iPod, and the nearest Apple store is there.

Looks like the perpetrators were employees at the mall itself.
