  • Well does he?

Not sure the best place for this. Sightings seems to be best.

My dad fielded a call from a political campaign office. One thing he's always going on about is how much he can't wait till the election is over so we stop getting calls every day.

    PW: Is Chanlin home?

    Dad: He's already voted.

PW: Oh, well who did he vote for?

Dad: I'm sorry, but that's none of your business.

PW: Well... does he support Obama?

Dad: Again, sorry, but that isn't your business.

The poll worker hung up on him at that point.

Wow, people can ask those questions in the US? In Australia that would have severe ramifications. (Then again, we don't have to register to vote for specific candidates here, which I understand is also part of the US system.)

We don't register for candidates, we can register for a political party, which enables you to vote in the primary for that party.

Let's say that Joe is registered to party A, and Larry is registered to party B. In May, when the primaries are held, both Joe and Larry go to the polls, and they both get to vote on things like amendments to their local city's home rule charter, but Joe votes on which of the candidates for party A get nominated for whatever positions, and Larry does the same with party B. When November rolls around, both Joe and Larry go back to the polls, and now they can vote for whoever they want in whichever parties they want, including parties D, E, and F, should there be any candidates from those parties.

They can ask under the guise of a survey, and afaik there is nothing forbidding anyone from asking. I'm not certain if it was a survey or not. My dad didn't really say.

The polling people can't ask, and the candidates themselves can't ask, but survey people can (hence the existence of exit polls) but you don't have to answer.

My standard answer is "I voted for Bill the Cat and Opus".

Similar here. I use superheroes or such usually though. Should have seen the poll persons face the one time I answered "Lex Luther and Doc Oc!" they can't run fast enough from the crazy man.

I'm seriously thinking of changing my affiliation, but I still kinda want to vote in the primaries.

Mon. someone from the X party called, asking if (first name of my mom) Fan was home. Didn't feel like telling her, "she's dead," so I told her she wasn't home, can I take a message. She just wanted me to tell her to go vote.

When I did go vote yesterday I looked at the register and noticed my mom's name wasn't there.
