  • Gas station owner treats me like I am a sucky customer

Yesterday while waiting to go on a delivery, I was asked to run to the gas station which is maybe a couple hundred feet away to get a drink for another employee. No prob, I don't mind at all.
The guy working there, an older gentleman (somewhere from the Middle East I guess) was outside doing something when I walked in, and had kept the customer in front of me waiting. Then he went outside again to do something, and he kept me waiting for a minute or two. Finally he comes back inside, and I give him the money. Only problem was, I kinda tossed it to him, nothing deliberate or mean to it, I wasn't trying to be rude. But he certainly was. RM= Rude Manager
RM: Don't throw the money at me.
    Me: Ooops, sorry.
RM: Now you pick it up and hand it to me. And don't do it again, if you ever want to come back into this store again.
Me (what I wanted to say): Yeah, I don't think I want to come back to your store, you fucking asshole!
Me: I didn't mean to throw the money, I'm sorry.
He glares at me, takes my money, and does not even say have a nice day. Should I have done something different maybe? Part of me wanted to storm out of there after the way I was treated. What's he going to do, complain to my boss? Guess what, I am a customer in his place, its not like he ordered any food from us, so he's not a customer.
Ultimately I decided just to leave, figuring that somehow maybe it would get back to my boss, since I figure alot of the employees go to that store to get drinks and stuff. But I have never been treated so rudely before and I am pissed. Is this the way this asshole treats all his customers? Personally I hope the motherfucker goes out of business.

Is there a higher person you could complain to?

I called my boss this morning, telling him what I was planning to do. I also expressed concern that I did not wish to cause trouble for him, since he and this guy (who I am not sure if he is the owner) seem to know each other and he goes to the gas station there quite often to get drinks and stuff. Alot of drivers from our store go to his place to get things, but I don't know if anyone else has had a problem with him like I have.
My boss asked me not to complain to Corporate, and I respected his wish. I also reminded him that I was not about to be treated that way again, and that I wanted to tell this asshole off yesterday. My boss said to please not do it while in uniform and I told him I wouldn't. But I asked him what he would do if something like this happens again, and he said he would take care of it. Not realyl sure what else I can do without ruining the relationship between my boss and the gas station owner. One thing is certain, I have to put up with alot of crap from customers, so when the roles are reversed and I am the customer, I'm certainly not about to take abuse from any employee. Please forgive me if what I just said makes me sound like a sucky customer, but I do want at least a little respect, as I am sure all of you would too as customers.

Eeesh. Yes getting the money thrown at you is probably a huge pet peeve for the guy, but seriously the appropriate response to that kind of thing is to come on here and vent about how rude that guy who tossed the money was, not to bitch at you in person!

Especially when the customer already apologized - twice.

And is the boss really going to "handle it"?
or is that more of a "i don't care what happens to you as long as you don't complain while wearing my uniform" kind of thing?

            This.

I can sort of understand him being upset at the perception that you intentionally threw the money at him.

But, after you sincerely apologized, he should have let it go.

Devil's Advocate here: How many times have folks posted here about customers who throw money at us, and wanted to say exactly what this manager said to the OP?

I've read this complaint a lot in the CS threads.

What was sucky was the refusal of the manger to accept the apology once offered.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

i thought about that as well, SS - but how often did those customers apologize even ONCE, let alone twice?

If you ever go there again and are treated in a similar harsh manner, I suggest you send your complaint to corporate and avoid mentioning anything to your boss. It's nice you asked your boss about it, and I understand not causing a scene while in uniform, but whether or not you email a complaint to corporate is frankly none of his business.
