  • Pulling a joke on the new guy at Subway

Yesterday after I had gotten off work, I was feeling hungry, so I went to the Subway right next store to our pizza place. I wanted to get a footlong steak and cheese sandwich. He tells me that they are out of steak. I was a little disappointed, but I'm certainly not about to be a sucky customer. SE= Subway Employee
Me: Gimme a chicken bacon and ranch footlong then.
SE: Sorry, its my third day working.
Me: No worries, but you should have more steak available for customers who want it.
He proceeds to make my sandwich, and its then I decide to play a little joke on this new employee.
Me: By the way, you're new so you might not know this. Subway gives out free cookies to anyone who wants a certain sandwich if you don't have it available.
SE: Really? Ok, which cookies do you want?
Me: Don't worry, man, I was just playing with you.
He then starts speaking Spanish and I tell him I don't know Spanish.
SE: I was just messing with you, man.
Yup he got me back. That's ok, I can take a joke just fine. Wouldn't try that with some customers.
The funny thing about the whole story is, I did get some cookies, but later I realized that he had forgotten to charge me for them Hope the poor guy doesn't get into trouble. I'll pay him a visit tomorrow, and no, not to get more free cookies

Sounds like you were borderline SC for a moment there....

My advice? Never try to prank the person serving you food.

I will admit to playing a prank on a food service worker exactly once in my life.

I went to McDonalds, one of my buddies was working the drive-thru and I recognized his voice. So I closed my order with "if you spit in my food, I'm going to kick your ass."

It was all smiles and ha-has then, but I later realized I could've gotten my friend in some serious trouble. Also, had I tried that with somebody else, he/she could've decided to call my bluff.

So I never did such a thing again.

Playing a prank on the person serving your food is potentially a Very Bad Idea. You don't know who's stupid enough to give you a spitburger.

I'd be tempted to ask for a 3 inch long footwide sandwich.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

Little different at Subway, considering you're standing there watching them make it, but I agree with not messing with people preparing food in general.

The one and only time I've ever even semi-pranked someone at a food place was a McDonalds. I was there with a friend, had placed my order and he was placing his. He ordered nuggets, and young me, without even thinking, turned to him and said "What are you ordering nuggest for? You already have two of your own!"

The poor girl behind the counter nearly ended up on the floor laughing.
Mytical: A SC? Make a mistake? Oh goodness no. Must have been the little pink men from the planet parsley in the butternut galaxy. We all know that SC's could NEVER make mistakes.

Humor is so subjective, it's really a close-to-the-line area. And even when it's your friends, who knows how management will view the interaction. I just lay off it entirely in the workplace.
