I'll start off with what we did wrong.

We're not suppose to have pets outside without leashes on. The apartment manager (AM) overlooks this when people are actually *next to* their pets. So she knows sometimes we'll run our pooch into the car without a leash.

On Sunday we were taking her out and on the way out a woman (Cranky Woman) stepped in close to my BF, getting between him and Pooch. Pooch jumped up to say "hi"and then Cranky Woman started complaining at my BF about the dog.

BF: we're just taking her to the car
CW: well the rules say she has to be on a leash!
Me: I have a hold of her. (took ahold of Pooch's harness)

The next day as I was walking the dog, AM called me in to discuss the issue. Turned out CW had written a 2-page letter about how horrible my BF was, and all the "incidents" she's had with him.

    The claims are... Wow.

Apparently my BF "laughed in her face" about it. (lie) and that this is the 5th time it's happened with him. (lie lie lie lie)

Luckily AM doesn't buy it either.
Although she did say to be careful with CW - stomach surgery so I understand why Pooch shouldn't jump on her)... CW also has a history of animal-hating.

The unofficial story (AM doesn't have proof) was that one of CW's neighbors had dogs that CW didn't like. So instead of telling AM "hey make them stop letting the dogs poop in this area" she went and picked up dog poop and put it on the apartment doorstep in retaliation.

As for the other "incidents" it took me a few minutes to realize what was really "happening"... We have several leashes for Pooch. I normally use the "green kong" leash because it's sturdy. My BF prefers to use a retractable leash so Pooch can run a little...and the new one is hard to see from a distance.

I made a point of taking Pooch for a walk with the new retractable leash and saying hi to AM again. Even AM commented that it was hard to see the leash when it was against the road.

So that's what I think the other four "incidents" were. Not Pooch jumping on CW but ... CW *SEEING* her running around on that leash and thinking "OMG UNLEASHED DOG!" ... either that, or seeing the times we walked her to the car unleashed, but under control. (when walking to car unleashed Pooch just runs around us).

But... from now on i guess we'll just cover our butts. And I'm going to start using the new retractable leash when I walk pooch too. And yes, I'll be waiting to see if I (not just my BF) get complained about for walking the dog "unleashed". Cos then I'll KNOW it's just her poison and not reality

Could always get one of those retractables that have a bright neon color as the cord. Cause let me tell ya it's much better to see a dog running at me whose wearing one of those then one where I can't tell if they are leashed or not. Curse one of my regulars for always having meat treats for the dogs.

maybe but... to be honest ...

      1) i doubt it'll be the length we want for her - current retractable leash is 22 feet. (old one is only 16)

      2) Plus ... maybe it's part arrogance but I don't see that we should have to buy yet another leash just to make her happy. We have 6 leashes already. Some are more visible yes, but they don't have the distance that the leash in question has. and I'm not against letting pooch run a little on a longer leash.

Besides, a bright neon leash might not work anyway. Cos... well CW tried to make it sound like each "incident" was a case of being JUMPED on, not a case of seeing the dog without a leash.

Part of me also wonders if she's just angry at all the dogs here and just happened to find a target to take her aggression out on. And yes, part of me also is a bit on the "ego" side where I don't think we should *have* to get yet another leash, as long as pooch HAS a leash - even if it's hard to see.

Are you sure you're not in my area? I had a similar thing happen over the summer with my dog. My mother is the apartment manager, our dog is leash trained, but when she goes out on our property, we don't use it. She is well trained, never jumped on anyone, never bit anyone, and when outside, unless a dog is harassing her, she won't bark.

Some women came up demanding I put my dog on a leash before she called animal control on me, I told her she needed happy pills. She then called my mother to complain...

And my dog is my mom's baby. So that went over...well. LOL
