  • I... is there a limit on those??

So I was at one of the gas stations the other day and saw something that made me half confused, concerned and annoyed, but wasn't sure if I should actually interfere...

A couple of women had brought in their own cups for coffee. No suck there. They then filled em up halfway, and then went over to the creamer and flavors... and then... filled up the other half (travel size cups) with various flavor packets, emptying about half the bin that was there.

So to the various peeps who work at places that have flavor cup/packet thingis... is that sucky? Can you somehow charge em extra for that?

Well, some people do use a lot of creamer/sugar/whatever. I use about four of those little things of half-and-half in an average size cup of coffee, so if I had a large cup, I'd want to use more. Some places put a lot of those things out, and others never seem to have more than 10 out at a time (probably because some people take extra and put them in their purses or pockets )
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Hm, that seems valid. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I just kind of assumed that half a cup's worth would be too much.

My only experiences with it are from my family, where everyone's Coffee is "Black."

A lot of places in Alaska have large dispensers for the flavored creamers now (my favorite place also had the flavored syrups). I haven't really bought any down here so I'm not sure. I've seen some people use a TON, others like me spike it with cappuccino mix (I always tell them and pay more if they charge it) to get the flavor.

I use a loooot of cream. I like our local gas station because they have a lever-operated dispenser with several flavors, including real half and half. They don't seem to care how much I use.

Nope, not sucky. A tich annoying, but not sucky. All the creamer/cream/sugar/whatever went into the cup with coffee and so it will be drank (or at least I assume so.) If they had taken the little creamer things and stuffed them in their purse/pockets that would be sucky.

We just have a milk/cream dispenser, and then some pumps of flavoring (Vanilla, Honey, and Hazelnut.) Some people use a lot of cream/milk and some people pump a whole lotta flavoring, but it's going into the coffee.

Now, we did have a guy who would go into the cabinets when no one was looking and steal our bags of coffee (pre-ground/single pot sized stuff that we used to brew coffee.) That guy? Totally sucky. Also totally banned from the store once we figured out what the hell he was doing loitering over there until one of us got distracted. (We just got a new camera/monitor for that aisle and caught him.)

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

Yeah, I've worked a c-store, and this is non-suck. Profit margin on coffee includes the incidentals, so until the 'use a bunch' people really outweigh the 'straight black' people they'll keep up an unlimited use policy.

To be honest, I don't overuse creamers or sugars but... when it comes to flavored squirts i like a lot of flavor. where my bf might only use say 2 squirts at the local gas station i'll use 4.

afaik it's something they budget for cos not everyone uses them, or a lot.

but those who take extra to go (in a purse) then yeah that's sucky.

When I do a coffee [heart issues, a single coffee will boost my BP and heart rate uncomfortably high, but I adore coffee] I do 1/3 half and half or cream, 2/3 coffee and a touch of splenda. Rob makes navy midrats coffee so I am used to coffee being pretty menacing.

buahahahah Navy Coffee ... I remember brewing that when I was working the mess decks. 2x the amount of grounds (or a little more if I was brewing it).

I still remember a dependent's cruise where one civilian was looking at it and asked if it was decaf. (Yes I was nice and told her that it was extra strong coffee).

Then they got rid of that and got some kind of coffee syrup and a machine. after that all the cream and sugar in the world couldn't make it taste good.

I don't think that's weird or wrong. If I'm in a convenience store getting coffee I'll likely put 4-5 creams and sugars in it. :P If she's putting it in her coffee she's not "stealing" them -- it would be cutting off her nose to spite her face if she "stole" all those flavour packs and made her coffee undrinkable just so she could "steal" them.

If she pocketed a bunch of flavour packs or sweeteners to use later, then I'd say that's a problem. Or if she took a spare cup and filled it with cream and whiteners and etc.

I work at one of those types of places and sometimes I really wish that could happen.

Decaf on a Naval vessel ... is to be laughing.

After the first dependent cruise on the San Juan, I would just go hide in Machinery 1 with Rob and the guys ... I pissed off the weapons officer by pointing out that a hichun class hydrofoil could outrun a mark 48 ... and pointing out everything else he got wrong. [I play a mean game of 688 and had most of the Janes manuals that the base library used to give away every time they got a new one.]

I have to admit, I got a serious laugh from the submarine episode of NCIS ...

We charge 25 cents now for cups of ice so if someone tells me "this is just milk" I just charge them the 25 cent button for ice. I mean it's all ordered for "waste" use anyway but the CUP is at least worth 25 cents just to make a profit on it.
