Yesterday, I was driving to a friend's house, and came to a spot on the interstate where the traffic was horribly backed up due to an accident. When I say horribly, I mean it took nearly an hour of stop and go to move 2 miles...

Apparently this stop-and-go was too much for one driver, as the car in front of me opened its driver's side door and a stream of yellow liquid poured forth on to the road's shoulder.

You did say it was "stop-and-go"...

I'll be honest, I had to do that too. Was on Highway 30 in the middle of nowhere, Indiana. Traffic was DEAD STOPPED with no way to do a U-turn to go back the other way. Needless to say, after a while I HAD TO GO! There was no holding it and being stuck in a car, can't do a pee-pee dance to try get the feeling to go away. So I did the same thing as the OP's story

And I would think those would be easier to use if you are male rather than female. Just stick 'im in and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Only time I recall getting stuck in that kind of traffic was on a Sweet Shoppe run with Mom a few years back. Took our usual route down Wendover Avenue all the way to High Point (Wendover runs smack into Eastchester Drive, aka Hwy 68 -EE or SS would know where this is.)

As we're approaching the humongous shopping center (right there at Deep River) we saw traffic backed up. Took almost 45 minutes just to get from where Penny Road runs off Wendover to the light at Eastchester.

What was the trouble? A two car wreck it turned out. A neon yellow Mustang apparently got the pony knocked out of it by another vehicle (IIRC the other vehicle was an SUV) and both vehicles had to be moved out of the middle of the road and to the side so traffic could try to squeeze through. Right before the 4 pm rush too, so you can imagine how much traffic was on 3 lanes going each way.

Luckily neither one of us had to go pee . . . we'd been SOL until we could get to a nearby convenience store.

I used to get stuck in situations like that all the time when I'd drive from GSO to Maryland to visit the folks.

When you pass through Richmond, there's this place on I 95 where it meets up with another highway (64?) and bottlenecks. It can take 45 minutes to go about a mile.

There've been times I sat there begging God to be able to pee

Once did a Colomo to Chicago run in around 5 1/2 hours utilising the 'drink and, er, refill' technique with 4 Mtn. Dew.

At the other end of the spectrum, I caught a ride to St. Louis with a bunch of weightlifters from the gym where I worked. Met up with them at a pizza place where we had a few pitchers of beer. We piled into the car and stopped 2 hours later when we got there... and all immediately hit the head. HARD.
I didn't want to say anything since I bummed the ride, but one of the other 4 coulda let his macho down for 5 lousy damn minutes and saved us all a lot of grief.

                    :
44 oz big gulp cup. Scootch forward on the seat, drop trou, hold cup with the brim squdged into an oval, hold firmly over the area and pee. When stuck in a hospital bed I got plenty of practice controlling the volume output to less than a waterfall and more than a trickle into one of these. It is easier if you are in a skirt or dress and wearing hose instead of panty hose. I suppose I could actually buy a female urinal, but a cup that can be thrown away after emptying works.

I've got a couple backups for my "driver dehydrator". They're convenient (1 litre size fits in a trouser pocket to be drained at the next available toilet facility), but I haven't seen any in-store for a while. They seem to be using the normal neck size on their 1 litre bottles now.
