As in of the last 10 days I've been driving in town, on 6 of them, cars have come at me going the WRONG WAY down marked one-way streets. TWO in one day this last Friday! And one got EXTREMELY pissy with me when I wouldn't move over and continue to let her keep going the wrong way. Another came within 3 feet of smashing into a BUS before he hit the brakes... another was a young man and his presumend girlfriend on a scooter, going the wrong way, and neither had a helmet on.... that's an American Tragedy (tm) in the making....

This whole world's gone insane I tells ya!

Wasn't all bad, though. I was coming up on an intersection where the cross-traffic has a "NO THRU TRAFFIC" restriction, they have to turn left or right and NOT go across because the road I'm on is 4 lanes plus a center turn and that's too dangerous to try and dash over that much surface street.

Well, as I approach, I see a tow truck from the OTHER big towing company in town stick it's nose out of there, look left, look right, and then went STRAIGHT across, blatantly against the signs.

And just as I start to grouse "never a cop when you..." the Borough's unmarked grey traffic unit shoots across the road with his lights on. Heh, wherever he was hiding, I didn't see him either!

    Haw-haw!

So does a tow truck get in more trouble for that than an average driver? And not necessarily officially mind you.

Nope, in fact, they're more likely to get a break since most local cops know you after you've impounded/cleaned up a few wrecks for them, I didn't see how it ended, but, unless he gave the cop a lot of lip, I doubt he got more than a stern warning that he, a tow truck driver, should know better than to ignore the signs :P.

His BOSS however? He'll probably be the most pissed off of all if word gets back to him of what his driver's are doing.

Sounds like it would be time for an anonymous tip from a "concerned driver" about the tower's own driving behaviour.

How much credence is given to such anonymous tips? There is possibility of a car owner trying that after "He towed my car from a lot that had only six Permit Parking Only signs" gets nowhere.

I can see the bossman getting rather pissed. Local PD tow contracts and/or contacts are money in the bank. Any idiot driver endangering one of the big revenue streams... DUDE, Where's my job?

The road by where I work is being turned into a 4 lane divided road from a 2 lane unundivided road, and it's almost done, but the road is at 1 lane each way, on each side till it's done.

Back on Monday I was driving to work headed east, and in that section of road when I see a very elderly lady pulling out of the gas station across the street from my workplace. Well, a thing with the new road setup is you can't turn left to cut across the road. Well, you can guess what happened: she turned left right in front of me. If it weren't for the fact that I could get into the turnlane to turn into work, she would have hit me. She continued on likenothing happened, going the wrong way. I hope no one else had a runin with her.

She kept going like nothing happened. I wish the boys in blue were there to see that, and take her off the road, she shouldn't be driving.

Make it 7/13 now, this genius ignored two "DO NOT ENTER" signs AND a "NO RIGHT TURN" sign, and turned right up a one way street, and had to DRIVE OVER THE CURB that they built specifically to SEAL OFF the right lane on that street to try and prevent people from being physically able to turn down it if they ignore the signs....

And you just know that as he was driving over that curb, he was complaining about how bad the roads in the city have become and if he wrecks his shocks/suspension/etc... he's going to sue the city, the county, the state and the country for good measure.

8/14, grey Ford Escape pulled right out of a sidestreet and into my lane and only (sheepisly) backed off when they realized what they'd done, despite the "ONE WAY" sign at the intersection of said side street.... I should stop tracking the number, it only depresses me.

My guess is that he didn't back off because he realized what he'd done - it was because he realized that he had a choice of backing off under gas power or diesel power, and chose gas.

We have an intersection here where there is a HUGE median between north and south lanes. Like, stores are in the median huge. the intersection is set up kind of like this

                        lEl lWl
                        Traffic light
                        =South bound=
                        Traffic light
                        =north bound=
                        traffic light
                        lEl lWl

So when you go through the light, east or west bound traffic will cross south bound traffic, go through the light in the center part and cross north bound traffic. It's hard to explain, I'm trying.

If I go to the village inn on the corner of that intersection, it never fails that someone will turn north in the south bound lanes. Despite it being a VERY busy intersection and all the lanes are filled with cars FACING YOU, people will still slip into the right turn lane. There are 3 one way arrows there.

oh look, I found a picture

A bit of a slump this week, but we're now 9/18

Guy in a Silverado ahead of me on a one way street stops, pulls a U turn, squeezes past me and goes the wrong way.

Was still going the wrong way 4 blocks later when he disappeared from view over the crest of the hill.

10/21, this time it was a grey civic going the wrong way, DOWNHILL, in excess of the speed limit and turning onto my street without a signal.

Tell me, good sir, when you file your taxes ever year, what do you list as your occupation? "Kamikaze Pilot"?

11/24, guy failed to notice his two-way became a one-way, despite the plethora of DO NOT ENTER signs, ONE WAY signs and ALL TRAFFIC MUST TURN LEFT sign.

But I bet if you hung one up that said "FREE BEER" he'd have seen THAT.
