It still scares the hell outta me that, somewhere out there, someone has made a little table for the passenger seat that makes it easier for the driver to use a laptop while driving.

I've seen people who can barely see above their steering wheel, with a car phone in one hand, their window rolled down and their other arm out the window. I'm still trying to figure out how they drive.

Imagine my shock and horror as I watch you weave through traffic with you head bent over texting your friends what I'm sure is the inane drivel of your life. It will be SO NICE to see you in the headlines as you die in a FIREY WRECK.!

Happened here a week or two ago. Young guy, 19ish, plowed his car into a concrete barrier and died while he was texting. Apparantly a blood test showed he hadn't been drinking or doing any drugs. Newspaper article said it's believed to be the first fatal case of texting-and-driving.

Maybe in your area, but over here we've had numerous deaths due to texting. The one I always remember is where the prosecution brought out a text log from his mobile phone provider, where the message at the time of the accident read, "Blah, blah oh shit, I'll talk to you later."

The truck driver had swerved onto a layby and killed a mother and son who were taking a break.

They're not putting people in danger. I'm sure they have the huge warnings not to use your laptop while driving. People are putting themselves in danger.....

At least cops are likely to either have their partner in the passenger seat run the laptop, or else pull over before using it. CS's? Not so much.I don't see much distinction between laptopping while moving and texting while moving. Both are ludicrously dangerous.

wouldn't it be better if they had on-star in a text-format? like a hands-free thing? My old foster mom had onstar so she could talk and drive at the same time...she could dial out just like a phone...it was pretty cool...
