Ran into this one on my way home from work yesterday, and after the initial shock wore off, I was pissed as hell.
Most traffic rules state that vehicles on the highway have the right of way compared to vehicles trying to merge. This is especially true if a vehicle in the right lane (as I was) can not safely get over due to traffic in the left lane. In my case, I had a truck coming up in the left lane that wasn't going to let me over, and as I approached an on ramp, this sporty looking car (don't remember exactly what it was, but it was shiny and new with mag wheels) comes down and is preparing to merge. Now I'm maintaining the speed limit, and this car is going to hit the highway at the same time I'm passing the ramp. In this situation, do you
A) Slow down to merge behind the vehicle already on the highway.
B) Speed up to get ahead of the vehicle already on the highway.
C) Stay at the same speed, and try to merge right into it.
This asshole chose C. If I didn't move, this guy was going to slam right into me, so I immediately moved to straddle the center line, and thankfully the truck coming up behind me saw this and was able to get around me on the left then zoom ahead, while I meanwhile slammed the gas to get ahead of this moron and get back into the lane, especially since my exit was the next one up and there's only a mile between them. To say I was pissed later was an understatement, but also scared, because if things hadn't gone just right like they had, either he would have hit me or the truck coming up behind me would have hit me, either way I would have been in the middle of a nasty accident.

Once I'm past the Second Avenue ramp (the last one on the right), I'll gradually make my way over to the right lane. I have to be in the right lane anyway to cross the river
