So after work tonight I went out to dinner with some of my co-workers. Everyone was following me since I was the only one who knew how to get to the restaurant. I had one co-worker riding shotgun with me.
Driving down [main road my store is on], which abruptly changes from commercial to residential, we saw a group of girls standing on the side of the road, on the front lawn of some house. They were looking right at my car. They were mid-to-late teens at the youngest.
Since they were standing still, I didn't really pay that much attention to them, but WELL after the point at which I was too close for them to safely walk into the street, two of them SPRINTED out in front me and out to the double yellow lines, where some object lay. They then turned and it looked like they were going to try and cut BACK in front of me and make back to the lawn before I'd hit them!!
I had to slam on my brakes. I was shocked more than angry, because CLEARLY they did this on purpose. This was no "ball bouncing into the street, followed by small child" nightmare scenario. They were clearly old enough to know better, and it was very obvious to both me and my co-worker that they did it deliberately.
I laid on my horn much longer than would otherwise have been necessary, had they NOT done it on purpose. You know, upon further reflection, I should have called the local constabulary's non-emergency number (which I have in my phone) so that maybe they'd pay that house a visit and strike some fear that will stick into those girls, since you know, obviously they have no fear of running into the road.
