I was driving with some friends to the mall (on the highway).

I'm in the middle lane. I see a car in the right hand lane pass an exit....

SLAM the brakes on and reverse ON THE HIGHWAY.

to get to the missed exit.

I didn't have a cell at the time wish I did woulda called the cops then and there with the lisence plate.

I saw some idiot in a Mercedes do that on Route 28 the other day. This guy, had been plodding along at well under the speed limit. He was in the passing lane, so as I'm getting rather close, I moved into the right lane, and went around him. Since 28 is still torn up (damn you, PennDOT!), the right lane is usually backed up because of the detour. At the last exit before the "construction," both lanes are blocked--no biggie, since the road splits into 3 directions anyway.

Anyway, I'm sitting in a line of traffic in the right lane, waiting to exit. About a second after I pull up, the Mercedes zips past in the left lane. Seems he really wanted to be in the right lane. Not to worry! He slammed on the brakes, backed up, and somehow managed to squeeze through the cones between the lanes

As I'm watching this, my first reaction was "are you fucking kidding me?" At the speeds most people travel on Route 28, he's lucky he didn't get creamed

I saw the same thing once going to Hampton Beach, but this guy was going backwards in the breakdown lane at about 70 mph. Speed limit.

Why? He forgot to pull over by the salt marsh he wanted to fish in.

Were you in Montreal at the time?

It's par for the course there. I've got used to see it when I go there. I'm disappointed when I don't see at least one.

One I saw was some idiot getting off the freeway and stopped at a crosswalk even though there was nobody nearby about to cross there. Pedestrians tend to make sure there are no cars in the offramp before crossing.The offramp ends at a one-way street going towards the street that the offramp is actually for. Most people getting off the freeway there often are still going at freeway speeds, so that person is extremely lucky they didn't get rear ended at that speed.

I saw a *cab* do this on New Year's Eve about 5 years ago.

I was coming home shortly after midnight (I wanted to get on the road before most of the drunk drivers got out there) and I am merging from one highway to another. Because of the merge, I am in the slow lane. There is no one on the highway except a cab, also in the slow lane, a ways in front of me.

All of a sudden he comes to a complete STOP on the freeway! I quickly changed lanes and then passed him. In my rearview mirror I see him reverse to get to an exit. It wasn't even just a few feet either! He missed the exit by a LOT! The next exit was closer than the previous one!

If I hadn't been going the speed limit and was able to catch the cab number, I totally would have reported his ass. There was no reason why he couldn't take the next exit and use the surface streets or at least get back on the highway the other direction! He's so lucky that there weren't that many people on the highway at that time!
