I considered just parking until it was all over more than once, since my route ran past both Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, both of which have huge fireworks shows.

    ^-.-^
Around here, the big July 4th show is at the Fairgrounds and it's free parking and free admission. Every year, they announce for days before is anyone parking on the side of the highway to watch will be ticketed ($150) and possibly towed. I remember driving by about 10 years ago before they started ticketing people and it was like a parking lot along the shoulders with people and their cars/chairs waiting for the fireworks to begin. Very dangerous with traffic whipping by at 65+mph.

Hell, I just don't trust anyone else on the road to ever know what they're doing. Keeps me from being part of their accidents

Every year, the weekend before Thanksgiving, we do a reenactment at Liendo Plantation in Hempstead, just of State Highway 290. The battlefield actually IS on the highway. Every year, traffic stops (and pulls to the side of the road) to watch. So far, there have been no wrecks that I know of.....yet.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.
