A REALLY Close Call
Mom, Bro, and I went to Costco on Saturday. THAT was an adventure in and of itself, but that's not what this story is about.
We take a 4-lane divided relatively busy road to Costco. The speed limit on said road is 45mph. There's a sidewalk on either side (this is important).
We're driving back, and there's dad and his two sons (probably 8 and 10) riding their bikes on the sidewalk. This isn't unusual - there are multiple housing developments relatively close to where they were. What caught our attention though was when Dad decided to "jay-bike" ACROSS the two lanes of traffic going the way we were going with the older son WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING! The kid managed to make it to the center dividing line and here comes a car. I'm not entirely sure what happened then because the car was blocking our direct line of sight, but we know that while the kid didn't get it, it was pretty darn close. The car had to slam on its brakes to not hit him, and meanwhile Dad was on the bike lane (right of the right lane, just next to the curb). Mom and I were on the passenger side of the truck since Bro was driving, and as we passed him Mom hollered out the open window "what are you thinking?", and I followed with "keep your kid on the sidewalk you idiot!". I'm SURE they heard at least me - I'm unbelievably loud. Honestly....that kid and his bike was almost a hood ornament.
See that sign there? Yeah that one. Please pay attention to it!
I started work last week. It's about 20 mins from my house, but I have to go right past a major state university (i.e. the 3rd largest in the southeast) to get there and home. As such, the road is a 6 to 8-lane (depending on where you are) divided highway. The speed limit is either 50 or 45...depending on where you are. Traffic flows pretty well as long as people don't drive like morons.
Well...I encountered a moron today.
All I wanted was to come home from work, but nooo....I had to get stuck behind the ONE defective moron who thought it was perfectly fine to go 30. In the left lane. It's 50 dummy! I rolled down my window and screamed at them (I'm not sure if it was a guy or a girl). I'm not sure they heard me, but I sure felt better.
