  • look before you go

ive realized lately driving to my new store further away from home. ive seen more and more out of state plates....not like massachusetts plates or new york plates...but michigan, minnestoa, iowa, arkansas, missouri...wtf? lol

    anywho my rant for today.

i have a corolla. its light in weight and today is super windy, so my car can easily be pushed by the wind. on my way home from school im driving up a hill, speed limits 40. i was doing 55 lol. and i got passed by at least 4 cars! and one of them was a corolla...wtf people.

also i was driving in a parking lot and some old hag in a massive s.u.v. is about to pull out of one of the aisle. well she doesnt look for me. and almost hit me, even though i had the right away. then she gave ME a nasty look

same thing at target. i was driving by the aisles and a see another suv looking to her right and im coming from the left. of course she pulls out without even looking at me. WTF people....wtf.

happens ALL THE TIME. i need like a massive bright flashing light maybe to try to get their attention...

I don't doubt you, my friend.

I nearly sharted myself last Wednesday morning on my way home from work and the gas station.

I was driving down the residential area close to where I live, and there was an SUV at a stop sign, well, it looked like it was waiting for me to go past before it turned.

So I keep going, get closer and closer....and as I get closer, I see that the driver is ONLY looking to the right, NOT to the left (which is where I was coming from) and with just seconds to spare, proceeds to pull out right in front of me and almost hit me. Idiot.

Yet another thing that happens to me on almost a daily basis. If I had a quarter for everytime I approached an intersection and some nitwit about to turn left was ONLY looking right....

so on my way home tonite i was driving through downtown hartford, which is a bad idea to begin with...one of the worst ranked cities for driving...no lie.

opposing traffic gets a green first so they can have the left turns and my side then gets the green a minute later. me and the car next to me go and i see someone coming from the opposite side and wants to turn left. well im driving and the car looked like it was stopping.

nope..he turns right in front of me and practically stops halfway and looks at me

        WTF!? asshole...

Hell, I look both ways when pulling onto a 1-way. My mother (school bus driver) told me about a coworker who only looked the direction traffic was coming one day, and ran over a jogger. Granted, the jogger should have been watching where s/he was going too, but ...

She taught me that at a stop sign, look around long enough to chant "Look for the walker, look for the ambulance," before going again.
Any day you're looking down at the dirt instead of up at the dirt is a good day.

I look everywhere just out of habit. I happen to like knowing what's going on around me.

There's a disturbing PSA you can find on YouTube about making sure you know your surroundings. Of course, the message is a bit lost when you think about how the other person in the video was almost absolutely at fault...

Here's a story from, cripes, 20 years ago. I feel so old...

I got marked down for "not looking" at a 4-way stop during my driving test.

I looked. I looked extra long, and then looked at the test person who had their head down writing on their little pad the entire time I was stopped, and contemplated that they were probably going to mark me down for "not looking" because they weren't paying attention.

Sure enough, I get my results, and except for one markdown for the 4-way stop, I scored perfectly. *sigh* Since I passed, I let it go. I was young, sick, and using a borrowed car, so fighting the DMV was pretty darned low on my priorities list.

            ^-.-^

Well, come spend a spring out here. 55mph is a light breeze then. I-10 between Deming and Lordsburg gets shut down routinely because of the wind. And not because of wind speed, but because of blowing dust ruining visibility.

That's the one weather phenomenon that I am absolutely sure of my ability to handle a car. I've driven in 60mph crosswinds. The only place I sometimes use more than normal caution is the bridge across Nogal Canyon on I-25. And I drive a '96 Saturn SC2.

For some reason all of a sudden it's no longer necessary for people pulling out of parking spaces to look behind them. Some one even called in to the paper here taking people to task for not watching out for her backing up.

The only place I can see some sense to this is if you have a big-ass SUV and/or a big-ass pick 'em up truck completely boxing you in on both sides.

I always hate when giant SUVs and pickups try to sandwich in my little car.

I've got a sunroof....except the motor's burned out and I just haven't gotten around to seeing if I can find anyone to fix it.

You could always pop the trunk if you have a release up front and crawl out that way!

sometimes big cars arent a problem.

there was this one parking garage at school. whenever i parked in that one usually someone else would park super close and id have to slither into my car
