  • You might want to look at the road when you drive...just a thought

On the way to work the other day I noticed a van behind me. I looked at the woman driving. She seemed to have a cell phone she was using.

Not only that, but she was looking sideways.

At first I thought she was just saying something to her passenger, but every few seconds I'd look in my mirror and see her not looking at the road. The most of her whole face I saw was maybe 3/4 of it. She never faced forward.

When I reached the intersection where I was going to turn, she followed behind me into the turning lane. Then I see her blinker come on to get back into the right lane. Apparently she didn't even realize she was going into the turn lane. Shocking.

I'm surprised she didn't hit me at all.

I notice that sometimes on my way home in the mornings. Some people get a little too fixated on the scenery around here.....and drive with their head tilted all the way left or right.

Well ya see, it's that paved thing with the white and yellow lines in the middle.

It could also be that she had a laptop in the side seat that she was surfing on --- or worse, one of the ones mounted on those (inexplicably) perfectly legal DASHBOARD LAPTOP MOUNTS >_<

What makes them perfectly legal is the disclaimer "do not use while driving"...which anyone intelligent knows will be summarily ignored.

I've always thought those things should be restricted to law enforcement only, as cops would know not to use them behind the wheel.

Agreed 100%. Moreover, in a cop car, there's a reasonable chance that one will have a partner riding shotgun who can do all of the computer work needed.

Any time I've seen computers in cop/parking enforcement cars, the partner is the one using the laptop.

My dad will sometimes ask me to get his laptop out of the back and try to pull up Google Maps for something, but he's not the one actually using it (and he knows not to try looking at the screen, I will relay directions). My mom often refers to the passenger seat as her "office", but she knows not to try computing/etc while driving.

Oh, they have their driving SCs just like the rest of the populace. In about the same percentage, or possibly more-so because who's going to ticket them?

I've seen posts and articles about cops getting into trouble for using their laptop while driving. My favorite was the one that was porn surfing while on the job and in motion; winner all around.

Yeah, you'd think they'd do that.

I haven't actually spotted a cop websurfing while driving, but I spot them on their handheld cellphones all the time, even while their partner is sitting, unencumbered in the passenger seat.

I have also see them in Fire Dept SUV's and Public Works and Utility Company trucks.
