  • More cyclist adventures

I no longer get sucky customers where I work, since I spend all my time in an office, but I get plenty of "roadkill" material with my bike ride to and from work.

    Bus Badness

I hear, from all my other friends who ride bikes, that the septa buses are the worst thing to be around. I never knew what they were talking about because the septa buses were always very nice and accomidating to me. it may just be the route I take and I just get lucky with those drivers. One even opened his door to ask what kind of tires I use since I was riding so well on ice (hybrid tires do the trick).

but there are other buses. one is a bus with the Amtrack building pasted on it. I don't know what it is for... but it takes the same routes as some septa buses. The bus lane is the same as the bike lane, so we have to share, and this is law in the business districts.

So I am crusing in the bus/bike lane on my way home. I have my front light on, all reflectors attached and my rear light blinking, I'm very hard to miss. The bus lane was pretty crowded with a few septa buses, and then I see the blue amtrack building bus coming up on my left. I find this odd, But figure it doesn't pick up at septa stops so it can go wherever it wants... so now it is right beside me, I am boxed in behind a septa bus, and next to this blue bus. I'm not worried, I have been here before... but then the blue bus starts coming over. I look in the mirror and see he isn't even glacing out it, he is just moving over. I yell... no response. so I break just in time for the rear of his bus to miss my front tire by inches. if I didn't stop I would either be under his bus or on the sidewalk on my face.

The traffic was slow so I pull up beside him on his left. I am pissed, this guy is getting a piece of my mind. I notice his window is open so I yell and flip him off. I yell "Try looking in your mirror you asshole! you almost ran me over!" what does he do? ignores me. He pretends I am not there, even after I yell at him again (nearly falling off my bike like an idiot doing so) So I fume a bit, and just ride on ignoring what happened until I get home.... jerk.

it's green for me... why are you crossing?

Ok, I understand a bike is smaller than a car, but when the light is green for me, I go. But when there are no cars and only me, pedestrians start to cross the road illegally right in front of me, causing me to break. one guy actually yelled at me for almost hitting him, So i responded.

P: HEY! watch where you're going!"
Me: I have the right of way! you're crossing the street on a red, you should be watching for me!"
    P: Asshole
    Me: go F*&% yourself Dip$*&^

and rode off. childish, I know, but it felt good.

yea... I wonder why you almost got hit

I was riding back from the mall during lunch one day, after picking up modern warfare 2, to see this one guy riding infront of me. Walnut is the way I take back, so it's going to be busy all day until after 7, so during lunch it is rather packed. this guy was riding his bike with one hand, and talking into his phone with the other. but not only is he doing it the normal way (up to his ear) but he is switching... which i have seen all too often.

What is switching? well, it's when some guy/woman takes their phone and listens to it up against thei ear. but when they talk they pull it from their ear and place it infront of their mouths like it's a two way radio... it's stupid, I see it all the time on mass transit, and I never understood it. it's a phone! treat it like a phone.

Anyway, so this guy is riding his bike, and cordinating his movements with his phone from his ear to his mouth. not surprising he misses a guy signaling to get out of a parking space on his left (also... he is in the left lane, when he should be in the right bike lane) he nearly hits that car, drops his phone, and nearly hits a bus in the right lane. a car behind him beeps at him as he gets off slowly to pick up his phone and flip off the guy who was trying to get out of his parkig spot. good job champ... I'm sure I'll see whatever is left of you on the road some day.
