  • Parking Wars At Home

Not really the kind of "Parking Wars" you'd first think of, though.

On the street I live on, there are parking lots available for tenants, and guests are supposed to park on the street (but if you've read enough of my neighbor rant threads, you already know how that sometimes doesn't work, but I digress). And then with the calendar parking that goes into effect from November to late April (or was it May?) in Wisconsin, then also add in that once it snows, everyone needs to park on the street to allow the plows to do their job.....you know where this is going.

*By the way, just for anyone who doesn't know, calendar parking is in effect during winter months (at night), and it's used to help with snow removal and whatnot in the winter. On the odd numbered days of the month, you are to park on the side of the street with odd numbered buildings, and on the even numbered days, the even numbered side*

In the apartment building across the street (which is just one huge building, instead of several smaller ones like on my side of the street), someone bought an old Red Cross ambulance. I'm not sure if this person is a tenant who just can't fit it in an official parking spot, or a guest (more like a permanent guest, since it's there every day). You can tell it used to be an ambulance even though all of the "official" parts of it that made it an ambulance have been removed, but you can still faintly see where it still says Red Cross on it. AFAIK, if you buy a vehicle that used to be used for law enforcement/emergency/school busses, etc, you HAVE to remove everything that used to make it official.

Now, we all know that ambulances aren't the biggest vehicles on earth, but they aren't the smallest or the best to wiggle in and out of tight spots, either. Perhaps this was all that that person could afford, or maybe they really wanted it, I'm not sure, but this thing has been a real pain in the ass since the beginning of the month when calendar parking first started.

Last Friday when my friend spent the night, she had to park nearly 2 blocks down because that stupid ambulance took up too much space, and it doesn't help that the idiot who owns it can't park it worth shit, either. Because it was night time, she could only park on the one side of the street.....it was already a bit busy because all the vehicles had to be on the one side, but that ambulance ruined it for a few vehicles that could have parked there.

I guess the main point of this thread is that thing is just going to cause HUGE problems once it does start actually snowing enough to count and enough to need to be plowed, and it really is a detriment to other people who have to park on the street at night, since you can only park on the one side....and considering that person seems to be there to stay, I don't think there's any chance that ambulance will be going away anytime soon.

Hmm, where I live we have no assigned parking, but plenty of spots in 2-rows on either-side of the lot between apartment buildings. However, you're supposed to park only one vehicle in-front of your apartment (to be nice) and any other vehicles you have go further-down in an extra spot. We ALWAYS have extra parking in front of our buildings. But lately, everybody's been getting letters reminding us to 'be courteous to our neighbors and not take all the parking spots in-front of the apartments' I don't know who's complaining, but I have NO IDEA what they're complaining about!
