Unfortunately, the Karma happened to someone else who, while still deserving, was less infuriating.
My good friend from undergrad came down to visit us this weekend, and this morning we headed out for some local errands before she headed home (bead store, "whole foods" style grocery with great dried fruit deals). While out and about, we encountered these two winners.
This is Not a Race Track!
On the highway on our way back from the bead store, we encountered this guy who must have thought he was James Bond or some sort of racer. As we came abreast of an on-ramp, this fancy little sports car and a boxier standard college student car both merged onto the highway, the boxy car a little ahead of the sports car. Both immediately began rapidly merging left across the three lanes without even signalling, the boxy car pulling ahead of me. Unfortunately for the sports car, I was already in the leftmost lane and therefore taking up his desired driving space with a vehicle at least twice his size.
At this point, I glanced over at him to make sure he wasn't going to start merging into me anyway (my car would almost certainly shrug off the impact, but I was in no mood to hit someone with my children in the car). The driver of the fancy Bond-esque sports car looked to be a college student wearing a fleece-lined version of Jayne Cobb's hat. I almost laughed.
The boxy car merged to the center lane without signalling, and the sports car pulled back from the car in the center lane that he was catching up to so he could pass on the right. And then cross all the way to the left, and back right in a very tight space without a single signal. Both cars rocketed on ahead as I muttered to my friend about an "accident waiting to happen," when I suddenly noticed the sports car heading right again, and then saw dust kick up as it passed another car.
It had just used the breakdown lane to pass someone at highway speeds.
I really hope Mr. Fancy Sports Car pulls that stunt in front of a cop.
Sweet Karma
So while complaining about the lack of karma when one really needs it, we got to the street the whole foods store was on. About half a block away from an intersection, the light ahead turned red. The car in front of us ran the red light, prompting more complaints.
Then, as we approached the light ourselves, a police car pulled out of the shopping plaza to the left with its lights on and went through the intersection.
Right outside the whole foods store, the cop had pulled over the guy who had run the red light. It may not have been Mr. Fancy Sports Car, but it was still nice seeing someone suffer the consequences of their stupid driving maneuvers.
