  • three layers of fail

Dunno if this really belongs in RR or anywhere really, but my car was broken into this past weekend. It's a 94 toyota camry and it shall never die... but this/these twits nearly made me think of it.

So I go out on saturday morning with my housemate (who gets a discount at Best of buys) to buy my GF a present and get to my car. suddenly the people in the house my car is parked infront of come out and ask me if it was my car. I said yes, kind of timidly, thinking they didn't want me to park there. they told me that they caught a 2 guys breaking into my car and trying to tare my radio out of it.

Suddenly worried I open my car, and sure enough, the back passanger side window (the tiny one next to the one that goes down... i think its called a vent) was smashed in. glass was all over the seat, and the cover around my radio was pried out... but my radio was still there. my neighbors said they must have been at it for a while because they got loud enough for them to come out and call the cops. the cops apparently made a report... but failed to call me... its registered to me, shouldn't have been hard.

So where are the three layers of fail?

    1. they got caught by my neighbors (real stupid place to break into a car, we are tight knit).

    2. they didn't get my radio

    3. even if they got my radio, I wouldn't have cared... because it's broken well... it plays, but the wiring inside is borked, so it never plays nice with back speakers and fades in and out for the front. so if they brought it to a place to sell, they would have handed it right back to them because of it being a piece of junk.

So i bring my car in to get the window fixed, but they find mroe wrong with my car. amounting to 1k.... i knew my suspension was mussed up, but i was waiting until after christmas. but the place i went to, who i trust alot and are great guys, said that it's way too dangerous to safely drive anywhere for much longer.... because now the axle and drive shaft was mussed up almost decided to scrap my poor betsy and get a "new" used camry... but i can't afford it because of X-mas and my folks can't afford to help me as I pay them back for a new/used because of xmas. so, betsy gets fixed, and shall live for another 5 years... forever if I had my way.

My friend had her car recently broken into at the campus park and ride. She was very upset, but was pleasantly surprised to find out that someone had already reported it and the police had been by to take pictures before she ever found out about it.

A few bits of fail from the burglars:

    1) She doesn't leave valuables in her car. They only got a few homemade CDs.
    2) They left behind a cigarrette butt. Friend doesn't smoke, and the police were very interested in this piece of DNA evidence.

Methinks there's been a chain of car prowls being investigated, since police normally don't go so far as to dust for fingerprints and take DNA evidence.

Sad news, though, is that her insurance wouldn't cover the window they busted out, so that was $250 out of her own (broke) pocket!

My insurence covered the window on mine.. but the window cost 210 to replace... insurence wanted 195 for it... yea... 15 bucks.... so I said screw it and just got it replaced without my insurence. its good for big crashes that aren't your fault, but anything small just isn't worth it.

My car was broken into a couple months ago. Instead of just smashing the window, they tried to pry it out or something and did about $900 damage to the door. They bent the frame and messed up the paint and broke the window.

They got a couple cd's and my cellphone which I immediately canceled. My deductible was $250 so it wasn't too bad.

What really irked me was I had just (3 days earlier) sent in the last payment for the car.
