  • Clean Off Your Car!

It's winter in Wisconsin, that means snow.....

Every morning leaving work the past few weeks, my coworker Michelle and I have noticed as we walk across the parking lot, there's a person who drives a little red Cavalier who only cleans off the front windshield and then takes off.

I'm pretty lazy and antsy to go home as well, but how am I supposed to back out of my spot or be able to see if anyone's coming if I don't clean off my windows or the back winshield? And I mean....the headlights need to be cleaned off as well so you can see where you're going, it's still dark at 7 am!

Not to mention that it's going to fall off along the way.....usually onto other cars.

I've been told that's illegal in my state. The cops aren't likely to pull you over for it, but if an accident happens, you're going to get nailed hard for causing it.

It's worse once that snow has turned to ice and is falling off people's cars... while on 70mph motorways.... -_-

It only takes a minute to get it off with a squeegee though. ^_^ (should I rephrase that?)

I don't have a car so I rarely have to clear snow off of them. But when I was at my parents over XMas, we had some storms, and I made sure that when I did clear the snow, I cleared the ENTIRE car off, top, headlights, rearlights, windows. (Ditto for dad's truck). I hate it when people go out driving with the "mushroom tops" as someone described them.

That is so dangerous! And it is illegal in a lot of states.

People are lazy like that where I am too. I saw 2-box trucks driving on the highway with 3feet of snow on their roofs, and at 60mph it was creating a white-out for the dozen or so cars behind them!

It's illegal in Germany too. The police will pull you over, with some luck you just get a stern talking. Professional drivers are in trouble, though and may even lose their driving licence. That's why all our trucks have a ladder and a broom on board.

So far we had no accidents in this winter, despite awful road conditions. <knocking on wood>

Illegal in MA as well, but only a measly $35 fine if they pull you over for it (which does happen).

I admit that when there's a lot of snow on top of the van I tend to not clear it off very well. If it's under 20-30cm I'll get it, but it's really difficult to get the deep snow off. Unless, of course, you have the sense to use the shovel. (Yes, I'm silly enough to try to brush snow off using just the snow brush. It happens when you don't drive).

sometimes im lazy but i usually try to get all windows cleaned. and the lights

when i'm at my least lazy i clean off everything... the headlights and windows
and then the engine hood and the roof
cos the snow there can blow back to re-cover my windshield & back window.

Now to get that guy to hit his brakes, and the whole thing slides down onto his windshield.

I drive a SUV with a roof rack so it can be difficult to get all the snow off, however if it is more than a dusting I make sure to get as much as possible off. Normally the only part i can get is the part under the bars, and that is just a few small inch or less clumps. It really amuses me to see a clean roof but the headlights and turn signals covered.
