  • Yield means something, idiot

Da Dairy Druid and I were at Sam's earlier today and after having our purchases inspected, we headed to my car so he could use his Packing +5 skill.

As we were crossing the crosswalk, this idiot comes speeding down the road and nearly comes close to hitting Da Dairy Druid. I looked at him and yelled "Fucking Yield, dumbass!" He flips me off and creeps close to me, before zipping off around the corner, barely even stopping at the stop sign.

I know had he hit him, I'd have pummeled the crap out of him. People do not slow down there and Yield doesn't mean shit to them. The problem is that this Sam's is one of the better ones in the area. The other one is too small and another is too far away for us to drive to.

Hate that. When will people figure out that parking lots are not demolition derbies?

It's also in a huge strip mall - there's also a Target and a Wal-Mart, so these shenanigans happen there too. But it's really bad in front of the Sam's. They just installed some stop signs, but really, they need to divert traffic away from in front of the Sams and just make it pedestrian traffic only. The local police patrols the area, but it doesn't seem to do any good. People still drive like idiots.

QFT. If the speed bumps don't slow them down, at least we can hope for a damaged undercarriage and poor alignment from the landing after catching air.

The problem is that speed bumps (or sleeping policemen as they're colloquially known in Britain) have relatively little effect on SUVs.

            Worse, they slow down ambulances.

And fire engines. I lived in a gated community that put in some really overly tall speed bumps (my regular sedan would scrape on about half, going over at a crawl) and the county made them shave them all down to half the original height for emergency vehicle access.

And they don't really slow people down - folks will just drive as fast as always, then brake to a near stop to go over them.

A mall I go to occasionally has a road with a 15 mph limit and some impressive bumps... If you drive 15 mph, you can go right over the bumps with only a little jostling... But I'm continually seeing people going 25 or 30 up to them, braking to go over, then back up to 25...

Sometimes it seems like stop signs are just recommendations in some places.
