  • No turns means NO TURNS

The bus transfer station downtown, in a bizarre stroke of actual logic from my local government, is one of the very few intersections with a No Turns sign at it for all four directions. Not No Turn On Red, No Turns. As in go straight. This is, of course, so that transferring buses goes as smoothly as possible, because you just have to wait for your light to turn green to cross, and don't have to worry about people trying to turn.

Why is it, though, that when I engage in my past-time of "count the bloody morons", I can get a rate of 1 per minute, with most of them being people turning there. One of them nearly into me!

That sounds like a good place for a policeman to make his ticket quota real fast. Maybe you could suggest it to them.

Just don't mention the "Q" word. Like the "C & D" phrase, most departments vehemenently deny the existence of the "Q" word.

      *"Q" = quota
      *"C & D" = coffee & donuts

Already was suggested. Doesn't happen when there's a cop sitting at the corner, though.

When I was growing up, one year during the annual fair (which produced a lot of illegal parking in the neighbourhood around it), there was a press release from the police that they did have a ticket quota, but that it was a temporary measure - until the new shipment of ticket books arrived, officers were restricted as to how many tickets they were permitted to issue each day in order to avoid depleting the supply of blanks. Once the new shipment arrived, they could write as many as they wanted.

I've seen a cop do it, with some of the cops we have in town I'm not surprised.

I don't mind if the cops do it with their lights on. Which reminds me of the morons who tried to gun it through the intersection WHILE AN AMBULANCE WAS TRYING TO TURN.
