  • GET OUT OF THE STREET!!!

This is a sighting from yesterday.

I was getting off the sidestreet ready to turn on to the main road, when I saw 2 kids, a boy who looked about 9 years old and a girl who was about 5, riding their bikes in the middle of the street! I was trying to turn, but these kids made a left turn toward me. The boy waved his hands at me, telling me to go despite the fact that they were right in front of me! The girl (who I assume was the sister) nearly got hit by an oncoming car as the brother was pressuring her along.

Now, this isn't that busy of a street for a main road and the traffic wasn't too bad, but, the point remains, these kids were playing in a street with a 40 MPH speed limit. It wasn't as if there was no sidewalk. Didn't their mother ever tell them not to play in the street?

I was driving home the other day, driving up the street to my house, and noticed a couple of kids trying to get their Power Wheels out of the ditch. They were well off to the side of the road, but I moved over to the other side (1 lane street), so there was a buffer. One of the kids sees me coming, and just as I'm about to pass, JUMPS OUT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK. Big, shit-eating grin on his face. Scared me out of my wits, and I managed to slam the brakes and stop before I hit him. I watched him for a moment, and he's just standing there giggling. So I swerve around and continue on to my driveway, seriously pissed off.

A bit later, my wife takes our dogs out for their evening constitutional. While she's walking our poodle around the yard, this kid comes up, all giggly about what he did, and proclaims to my wife about how he jumped out in front of my truck, and I was so stupid because I stopped.

What the hell is wrong with some kids? If he does that crap again, his parents and I are going to have a nice long chat.

Why wait? Next time he might not be so lucky.

I agree. They should know about this incident.

I live on a busy 5 lane road. We don't get kids playing in the street like that, but jaywalking has sharply increased over the last 6 months and now there's always little kids crossing the street in front of my house. Most of the time they are refugee kids whose parents don't watch them. I understand that they may not have had to watch them in their home country, but then I doubt they lived on major roads with idiot drivers too.

You win IT grunt, that little kid may not be so lucky next time. God I hate people like that, who jump in front of traffic.

GOD, I hate people who dart across the street. It's always the stupid middle school and high school idiots around here. They decide it's a great idea to dart across a 5 lane main road just to piss people off, and laugh about it.

We'll see how funny they think it is when one of them gets run over, if it hasn't happened already.

theres these kids who live down and across from the end of my street.

i forget how many there are. but theyre always outside.

thing is. they are always alone i never see the parents outside. hell i never SEE the mother.

              still its their yard, whatevs

but i always see them alone at the park, up and down the street...even like a quarter a mile away by themselves, which where i saw them required crossing a busy road, 40 mph, and assholes running red lights constantly,

my dads nearly hit a few of them. they just do whatever. but they never say hi, they just stare. i try not to look

When I was 7, I used to walk to the nearby park and community center about half a mile from my house. My only restriction was that I was to cross at the light with the crossing guard, which was halfway down the block, and not the light at the corner which had no guard.

But the kids in my complex are terrible about playing in the streets. Sure, they aren't regular city streets, but the people who drive through here are only somewhat cognizant that there are rules about how to drive.

Two years ago, on Halloween night, I was coming home from work, going about 30 in my neighborhood with no street lamps. For some reason, these fucking kids decided it was a good idea to wear all-black costumes with no reflector tape or anything and walk in the middle of the street. The only reason I didn't liquefy them with my car was because the parent was wearing a white jacket.

I stay in on Halloween now.

There were a couple of kids that would just jump infront of oncoming cars. This was about 10 years ago. They moved away. The mom knew about it and did nothing. I often wonder if they are still alive or not.
