I hate this country. (Long and ranty)
So. I live in Peru. In Lima, to be exact. And no one knows how to drive here.
It's a big, very overpopulated city (that's another rant) and I understand that theres going to be some crappy traffic, but this is completely stupid.
People love their horn. Specifically, honking their horn. *More* specifically, laying on their horn to get people to move faster. And they do this at red lights too. My customers over the phone ask where I am, and don't believe me when I say the U.S. (which is true. I'm not in the U.S.)
This city has the most taxis, and they're extremely inexpensive. They also have buses that are less than a dollar for the largest fare. But these people seriously don't know how to drive.
When theres traffic, cars immediately try to wedge their cars in the farthest forward space they can find. Even when this means they have to cross from the light side of the 4 lane highway to the right side of said highway. In stopped traffic. While honking. People also think that honking will magically make the car ahead of them move forward, or just otherwise not be in their way at all. Car disabled on the side of the road? Honk at it! Then it'll move!!
People also pay ridiculous amounts of money on neon lights that rim the license plate, which is illegal. They also buy what we call "ticos", little shitty cars that I've heard were originally made in Korea only for college students driving on campus.
They have the safety of a golf cart covered in aluminum foil, painted yellow.
People DO NOT like to stop to let pedestrians cross. Crosswalk or not, they just won't stop. They'll ignore redlights, traffic cops and old ladies in the street. They drive about 6 inches, or roughly 16? centimeters behind the car ahead of them, they won't let any space between the two cars.
And traffic police won't do a fucking thing. They stop cars and just ask for 5 soles, about 2ish US dollars. Then let the car drive away. Doesn't matter what the crime was...using the neon lisence plate light, running a red light, killing some pregnant woman...police just want the money. They know that any money that goes to tickets will just go into the governments pockets.
Then when someone actually gets hurt, it's on the news becuase news stations have nothing better to report. They get a good video of the body on the road, the involved car/bus/truck, and of the family throwing themselves on top of the body wildly crying "whyyy? WHHYY??" in spanish.
That is entirely another rant, and it may result in everyone thinking im a heartless bitch, but I'll post it in off topic soon. I need to vent. Thanks for reading (or skimming. or just readin the first and last sentence...)
