Trains hunt to Kill
I live in a college town so there are an overdose of pedestrians and out of state drivers just adding to my headaches. There are also active traintracks that run on the outskirts of the town. Some dorms and apartments are located across the tracks. You quickly learn the train schedule so that you don't get caught waiting and being late to class or whatever.
Over the years we have had a few unfortunate deaths because of the train tracks. Usually the person is drunk or wearing headphones or talking on the phone and oblivious to the world.
Last semester, on my way to class I had to walk across the traintracks and there were cops handing out pamphlets on the dangers of trains. I did not learn anything new but I just found it interesting that people don't have this kind of common sense.
so just incase you do not know, Trains will not stop for you!
Another Train Tale
Main street veers off in three directions and two of those roads go across the tracks. At this corner is a bar. One day, a woman realized that she went the wrong way. Instead of driving up to the next legal turn, she decides to turn on the Train Tracks to get onto the road she wanted.
Big surprise, her car gets stuck. She tries everything and cannot get her car to move. Then the lights start flashing and the barricades are being lowered, indicating that a train is approaching. The woman is still in her car. Four men (two from the street and two from the bar, not knowing each other) run over to the car and try to push it off the tracks. When that fails two of them pull the woman out of her car.
I was on the second floor balcony of the bar so I watched the whole thing. Not major explosives like you would expect. The train just pushes the car along with a few sparks. Then men are dubbed heroes so alls well that ends well!
Moral of the story; we need idiots to make the rest of us look good!
Orange Pong Balls
I was driving to the gym. . . . yeah i know I am lazy lol. Anyway, I try to turn into the parking lot but there are five girls standing along the side, one is lying down, another kneeling taking pictures, and two orange pong balls. They see me trying to turn in so the two girls on the ground jump off to stand with the others. As I turn in they are glaring at me. WTF??? This is the only entrance to the parking lot, what did you want me to do? When I left later they girls were still there and still getting in everyone's way.
Rules for Pedestrians
A pet Peeve of mine is when people have a cellphone permanently glued to their head and remain oblivious to the world. Crosswalks exist for a reason, so don't come running into the street cause you see someone across the way.
There is this one intersection that has a lot of heavy pedestrian and automobile traffic. There are signs stating that peds must wait for the little green walking man signal. Cars are not allowed to turn on red arrows but can turn right to their hearts content when it's a green or circle red light.
One time my mom and I were driving through, there was no traffic so we were safe to make a right turn on red. Halfway through these girls run out in front of us. One Screams "You Have a red light!" so I screamed back "You have a do not walk sign!"
Honestly, if they were crossing before us I would not have had a problem. But they were standing on the corner making no indication that they wanted to cross the street until we were halfway through the turn! grrrr!
Another Rule for Pedestrians
Along main street, which is two lanes going in the same direction, there are numerous crosswalks and lights. Some crosswalks don't have lights. It is those crosswalks that you may just walk out willy-nilly and cars HAVE to stop for you.
However, in the event you approach a crosswalk with a street light, take heed. Make sure the cars do not have a green light. I was at one such crosswalk, and being the good pedestrian I stood on the side waiting for the light to change. These two other girls felt different. The speed limit is 25 but drivers around here make their own limits. These two girls just strut out, horns blaring, fingers being flipped, and the two girls yelling at the drivers.
In the end, the girls lived to tell the tale. Once I crossed the street, I passed them and they were still bitching about how people don't know how to drive. Oy vey!
Make Up Your MIND!!!
So I was driving along a two-lane highway. I come up to an intersection to another highway and get into the turn lane to go left. This is one of those two lane turn lanes kind of thing, and I am in the outer turn lane. Anyway, an SUV from two lanes over decided he wanted to make a left turn as well. He cut off the driver next to me making him swerve into the right lane, and the SUV cuts me off causing me to slam on my brakes. Just to make this clear I was up to the white line where it is recommended you stop and wait for the light to change. So this guy is sticking out into the intersection.
Right before our light turns green Mr. SUV realized he doesn't want to make a left turn and thus turns on his right blinker. Great. Our left light turns green, and the inner turn lane goes through and everyone behind me got to pull over into the other lane and get through the light. So when the lanes going straight got the green light, Mr. SUV speeds through and zips off into the distance. Whilst I get to sit through another red light. Yay!
You know if our cars made any contact it would have been all my fault! Maybe the other driver that got cut off would have stayed and spoke up for me but we will never know and I am glad we wont.
End Scene.
