  • You're just gonna have your way (kinda long)

I was in Hollywood today to get out of the house and to get some things from Office Depot. The intersection of Hollywood and Highland can get extremely busy with traffic and especially pedestrians (aka tourists).

This bugged me the moment since it happened because what this girl did was totally illegal, could've caused an accident possibly hurting a great number of pedestrians at the corner if it wasn't for me using my head and just breaking letting her go on her stupid way and she had the audacity to look at me like a fool. Here's the intersection in question below. There's no traffic whatsoever in this pic, but during the day and certain nights it gets crazy. With it clear, better to show what I'm talking about.

OK I was making a right hand turn onto Hollywood Blvd which is the street that's going vertically in the picture. I was coming from the right hand side of the pic. Cars from Hollywood Blvd. started making a left on their green arrow which is shown to them from the light in the pic but from the other side. I proceed to make my right turn on red since the pedestrians didn't have their right of way yet. That's the best possible time to make your turn at an intersection like this if you're making a right, you would think...

EW UCLA bitch (I saw her license plate frame) decides that as she's making her left onto Highland (the horizontal street), she wants to make a sharp U-Turn (which is illegal in this intersection, it's too narrow to make a legit U-Turn, you just can't without making a scene and aren't supposed to do it) back onto Hollywood Blvd going back towards all those bright lights in the pic. Shit like that can totally catch you off guard which it did with me. Of course she does this right as I'm almost 1/2 way through my turn effectively cutting me off and almost trapping herself against the curb near those pedestrians in the pic. It went cars making legal left turns on their green arrow, me making a right and her looking like she's making a left then boom right in front of me trying to complete her illegal U-ey. I had to stop, let her go while tons of pedestrians on the corner just looked at her like she was the stupidest thing this side of the Mississippi and she has the nerve to look at me like I was the jerk. Some people just laughed when I glared at her.

When I got up a little ways up to Orange Ave. next to her to make a left, she couldn't even hold her head up to look anywhere but down near her radio because she knew I was probably pissed. All I have to say is if I pulled a stunt like her on an even less busier intersection, I'd get pulled over.

I couldn't tell from that photo -- is that turn lane posted "no u turn?" Because in California, u-turns are legal in a business district at any intersection unless so posted. (It's the opposite in Oregon -- u-turns are ONLY permitted where posted.)

If there was a "No U Turn" sign, she deserves the ticket she didn't get. Otherwise (believe it or not) she had the right-of-way.
I will not be pushed, stamped, filed, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own. --#6

Actually U-Turns are not legal in business districts in California http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/turns.htm. So technically she didn't have the right of way. The only right of way she had was the green arrow, which the law states you can make a u-turn on. But, Hollywood and Highland is a business district. So if I'm correct the fact that it's a business district supercedes the u-turn on a green arrow. There isn't enough room for a mid or full size vehicle to u-turn without trying to back up. She almost had to backup and she was in a something about the size of a Camry or Escort. I don't remember what she had.

Oh yea, no there is no "no-u-turn" sign but that spot is like the worst spot in all of Hollywood to try and even attempt a u-turn. I've lived in this state for 7 years and LA for 5. Out of that whole time, I've only seen about 3 people max make a u-turn there. Her and 2 other dodo birds. Even without the sign, you just don't do it there and people don't even try it even if they are thinking about it except for her and those other 2. She simply didn't use common sense.
