  • Strange weekend for red lights

TWICE this weekend I was sitting at a red light and watched a car come to a complete stop, and then start again, making a left turn against the light. One car had a red arrow, the 2nd was at a solid red. In neither case was it a particularly long light. At the red arrow, there was piss-poor visibility straight ahead, so they had a red arrow there for a very good reason.

    Strange.

(And no, no cops around to catch them.)

Not sure where you're located, but here in Joisey, you're allowed to make a left turn on red, provided both streets are one-way. I can't remember seeing more than one place where this exists, though.

I keep watching the people here in Hospitality Way (soooooo not the actual name of the town) RUN THE REDLIGHTS.

This ain't Carter County (TN), people! Gah!

thats here in ATX too, the only place we have 1way to a 1way left turns is DownTown! and it must be safe enough to do so!

No, these were not intersections with one-way streets.

Here, every light has a camera. Even the smallest neighborhood outlet lights.

            It's kinda nice.

Unfortunately, camera lights don't always help. We have an intersection I like to call the corner of "Hope and Pray." Where traffic comes around a bit of a curvy path, right to a red light. It is a three way intersection, the road connecting to it is a small side street. If you are coming from the side street to the main road you "Hope and Pray" that there is no traffic coming. Because normally they are taking that curve at insane speed, and will NOT stop for that red light. Yes it has a camera on it. The city makes great money off of that light, but it sure doesn't stop the crazy.

Yeah, I've never had much luck with the camera lights before, but I think it makes a difference when they are on EVERY light for 20 miles, so everyone knows they are there. I haven't seen one go off since early spring.

It's like the difference between knowing a cop might catch you and having a line of cops all along the highway.

They ought to post it on Youtube. If the fines don't deter people, maybe the thought of having everyone on the planet laughing their @$$ off at their stupidity might do the trick.

It might also be a case for one of those signs that say "Red Signal Ahead", that flash when the light is actually red.

You would think right? Nah, they have those (flashes yellow though). Of course..remember what site you are on. You think people bother to acknowledge signs?
