    Lesson not learned

    Last week, while waiting for the bus during the morning rush hour, I witness a jackass make an illegal left turn off of the busiest street in town. And sure enough, he hits someone. No injuries, other car has only a scratch, and jackass put a pretty significant dent into his fender. Someone called the cops, and they ticket this guy for making an illegal turn.

    Since then, I've twice seen this same guy, fender still badly dented, making the same illegal turn at the same place, same time of day.

    And I wonder, what would it take to get this guy to stop driving like that; Will it be losing his license, or will it be killing someone?





    Bonus car story:
    Someone in my building is selling a 2008 hyundai. Asking for $28 grand. I could go down the street to the dealer and buy the same car, only the 2011 model, for 31 grand. Who wants to bet he bought it new, only made $3000 worth of payments in 3 years, and now is asking so much because that's how much he still owes on it?

    um that would be an $83/month car payment.....even with like a 20% interest rate the math doesn't work for that......

        28 grand? Even with gold-plated everything and all options, it wouldn't be worth that much! Does he even know what Kelly is? Wait a minute--forgot where I was for a moment....

          Car prices in Canada are signfificantly higer than the US, even taking into account the exchange rate. Yeh, it's stupid, especially when it comes to vehicles that are built here in Canada and then shipped to the US.

            I used to have a 25-29% interest car payment. I was still paying 150$ a month for a 6000$ car. Who pays 28k for a hyandi anyways? You can get a 5 year old BMW for the same price or less.

                  I'd call the cops and let them know they should put an officer there the next couple of days at that time.

                    Heh. When I take the bus in the morning, I like to use the time spent waiting for it by counting the traffic violations I see. The average is one every 15 seconds, and that does not count speeding. On a typical day, just within the 2 blocks I can clearly see, on average 1 out of every 8 drivers is doing something they should be pulled over and ticketed for. Cell phones while driving are probably the most common violation, even though it's been officially illegal here for almost a year. In the 2 months I've been doing this, I don't think I've EVER seen a driver signal a lane change.

                    This is not the place for opinions, so I'm just stating the facts. Maybe I'll start a thread on fratching about what I think should be done about it.

                    Anyone, what really made the guy I started this thread about stick out is that he continued his illegal and sucky driving the very next day after causing an accident and getting a ticket for it. I assume he does the same thing every day, I just don't always happen to be there at the right time to see it.

                      To get into our drivethrough while heading west, you have to make an almost-u turn in a four way no light intersection. Actual u turns are illegal. Left turns from the north or south entrance are illegal. Left turns out of our parking lot are illegal.

                      There's a motorcycle cop we see once a month for about 2-4 hours. He makes his quota and we don't see him again for a while. I have seen him stop a second person without even getting off his bike, if he were fishing the fish would be jumping in his boat, gutting themselves and then nesting in his ice chest.

                      It doesn't even make a dent on these people. Those 20 seconds matter, damnit! :P
