Okay, so Salt Lake now has express lanes on the freeway (okay, so we've had them for a while, but up until a few weeks ago they were simple carpool lanes).
To use the lane you must either have a transponder to electronically charge your account for the toll (which varies from 25cents to $1 per segment depending on traffic) or have two or more people in the car or have C plates (alternative fuel vehicle).
Now, each of the toll readers over the roadway has a light on it that lights up green to let highway patrol know that the person has paid the toll (if they are not carpoolers or C plates). Today I saw two separate people have the green light come on (meaning the left their transponder on, even though the website specifically says that you must turn off the transponder if you are carpooling to not have to pay the toll). And then I saw another one that lit up who had C Plates, who isn't even required to pay a toll when single occupant, which makes you wonder why the hell they purchased a transponder in the first place
Anyone betting the suck is going to escalate when these people start seeing their billing statements and want to contest the charges for tolls because they were too stupid to turn off their transponders?
