I get people honking at me on occasion because I am more cautious at turning across traffic. My deal is, I'm so used to driving an 18-wheeler, I tend to overestimate how much time I'm going to take to turn. Better to err on the side of caution, though, I say. At least I've gotten a little better at pushing through these types of turns...
Yup, since I've been working in a claims department for a car insurance company (3 yrs), I have become *much* more cautious about unprotected left turns. I know my car can't accelerate that fast, and I know what kind of accident will result. Not worth the risk for an extra 5 seconds.

Just remember that an asshole honking and waving their arms is not an action item for you. You are not obligated to react or even notice. And you shouldn't.

Reflexively going forward or something could get you killed. They are responsible for their car. You're responsible for yours. They don't need to be prompting you on your driving, they need to worry about their own selves and not bother you.
