My mom and I were in our van leaving a parking lot and we had pulled up to the corner to turn. We were waiting for the road to clear and had been there for about 5 seconds (seriously), when we heard someone yelling. A guy on a bicycle on the sidewalk was yelling something but we couldn't hear very well. Then he passed behind our van, yelled "MOVE YOUR FUCKING VAN!" and slapped our back window! WTF? Then he crossed behind us and was gone, so it's not like we were even blocking him or anything. I still have no idea what his problem was. Luckily he didn't do any damage to our car or we would have called the police. Seriously, what the hell?

People touching other people's vehicles gives me anger issues.
Granted this was at a bar scene, but I was trying to get my bf and me home, and a group of drunk college kids were crossing the way, and one of the guys decided that I didn't see him or didn't stop for him (newsflash, I'm sober, you're drunk, I heard you before I even saw you, fucking idiot) and he pounded on the hood of my old Neon.
My bf undid his seatbelt and said "I'm gonna go slam his face against this car if he's so adament he's going to be hitting stuff" and I said no and just took off.
But trust me, I wanted to let him do that so bad. No matter what, you have no right to go around hitting or smacking or touching other people's vehicles. You really need to see a neurologist. - Wagegoth

Was he one of those people who thinks that he gets to ride on the sidewalk? I know I get ticked about cars pulled up over the sidewalk (no, I'm not concerned about how long they were there). I don't hit the cars though. That's reserved for if they're driving into you and didn't hear you yell. Because I'm not a complete asshole. (Recently posted self-sighting notwithstanding).

I don't know, we weren't on the sidewalk, we were on the roadway waiting to pull into traffic. He was coming off of the sidewalk and crossing the roadway where we were. I guess he was pissed because he had to go around us.Quoth Magpie View PostWas he one of those people who thinks that he gets to ride on the sidewalk? I can't picture this, I think the cities are set up differently. Around here the sidewalks continue across the mouths of driveways, if I understand you correctly they aren't doing so there. I wonder what that does to right of way? I also wonder what his attitude does to his life expectancyQuoth mariamousie1 View PostI don't know, we weren't on the sidewalk, we were on the roadway waiting to pull into traffic. Nope, the sidewalks don't do that here. I understand what you're saying now though, I was a little confused. I'm not sure what the right of way is. I'll have to ask my mom.Quoth Magpie View PostI can't picture this, I think the cities are set up differently. You'd hate it here in Edmonton.Quoth Magpie View PostWas he one of those people who thinks that he gets to ride on the sidewalk?
I've seen cyclists ride on the road until it didn't suit them anymore (Red light), pull onto the sidewalk and cross along the crosswalk (STILL red light!), cross to the other side of the road and then continue on riding AGAINST traffic, all without slowing down or pausing. On a Friday night DOWNTOWN, along the MAIN DRAG.
How we haven't been winning Darwin Awards left right and centre I don't know.Check out my webcomic!

Only thing I can think of is that you were sitting in what would be the area for him to cross, but since you were pulling-out, no big deal, especially if he wasn't at the road yet. If it had been lined/signed I'd have waited a little back from it."If anyone wants this old box containing the broken bits of my former faith in humanity, I'll take your best offer now. You may be able to salvage a few of em' for parts..... " - Quote by Argabarga

That at least tends to be a self-correcting problem. I remember reading somewhere that somewhere around 9% of all cyclists ride against traffic instead of with it. That same article noted that something like 75% of all accidents happen to people who ride with traffic. In other words, 9% of the cyclist population suffers 25% of the accidents.Quoth Polenicus View Postcross to the other side of the road and then continue on riding AGAINST traffic
