Today is apparently Make Tithera Late for Class Day, I swear! Everyone was against me making it across town this morning, causing me to show up 20 minutes late for class, even though I left a full half hour BEFORE class was supposed to start.
Suicidal Children
Ok, around here, school doesn't start until 9am for the young ones, 8am for high school. I have 2 elementary schools near my house and both are on my way to the highway to get to school across town. I leave the house at like 730am every morning, which should mean that there are no children walking to school yet. Apparently not. So many of these little kamakzis (sp?) stepped out in front of me, while my light was green, so many times, I nearly died of a heart attack! They didn't even seem to notice my large black pick up's grill mere inches from their heads. they just happily skipped along as my heart restarted with the red light. so, I sit and wait for it to turn and move to the next light and turn right. Parents, did you not teach you children the meaning of GREEN LIGHT?! Or looking both ways for that matter?! I do not want the death of your child on my conscious because of their and your stupidity! Please parents, help me keep my record clean of felonies. Please?
Fracking School Bus!
Finally get to the four lane before the major highway that takes me to the main major highway that takes me a 5 minute jog (as opposed to 30 min sulk) across town. There is a school bus. Nothing new, aside from the fact that instead of having all of the kids on this street (not many of them I might add) stand at one point and get on at once, the driver decides to stop at each of their houses, which are RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER! 2 secs, stop for 10secs, 2 secs, stop for 10 secs, repeat until we hit gas station a half mile down the road. Took 10 minutes for the bus to be finished. Why or why don't you have them wait at the corner like you use to?!
Underer.....
Finally, I make it 75, and mosey along at 70mph. Limit is 65, but if traffic is traveling faster, State Highway Patrol advises people to match the speed, to be safer. Apparently this did not apply to little miss princess. Tiny woman in a tiny car, holding a tiny cellphone, driving about 60mph (5 UNDER the limit!). Normally, not a bad thing, except she kept swerving so much, that the truck beside us was afraid to pass her, thus leaving me stuck between her, the truck and a line of angry drivers behind me. Thankfully, I got off at my exit without being in a pile-up
What the.....what is this?!
I get past the highway and all of the shopping centers and what not to be met with a very long line of traffic. What the hell, it's never this congested this early in the morning. I sit, about a mile away from my school in traffic, for what seems to be an eternity (in reality, it was only 10 minutes), when we arrive at the light just before our dorms. I attempt to forgo this strange back-up by turning left to hit our other entrance. It isn't until I have turned the corner that I see the road closed sign and sheriff sitting in the middle of road, telling us to turn around. He wasn't exactly nice about it. I would understand, if the sign had been visible from the light. the turn is blocked from eastbound traffic (the way I was going) and the sign was put way further back than regulation calls for (I would know, I've closed most of the roads down at one time or another last summer), thus making it hard to tell that the road was closed. Thus, we had to turn around and wait in the longest line of cars entering the entrance I have ever seen. I stretched back so far, that the line of cars passed the county line, which was a good 2 to 3 miles east.
The problem with the road closure was the school, nor the city or ODOT gave any of us any notice that that road would be closed. Had we known that, most of us would have arrived earlier to compensate for the line of cars. No notice, no warning except the sheriff yelling at us. You think if one out of the two entrances was blocked off, they we would give the more than 1500 students know about it?
Today is turning into a rather bad day to drive.
