  • It. Is. Not. Your. Turn!

I hate this one intersection on the way to my daughter's preschool.

The way this intersection is set up, there's Major Road going north-south, with two lanes each way for a total of four across. Then there's Cross Street, which has one lane each way with a total of two across. Cross Street comes under a highway overpass, meets Major Road right there for the intersection, then goes over a bridge at an angle to cross some railraod tracks. Visibility is tough at the intersection, so there are No Turn on Red signs. There are also no protected lefts.

People run the red lights there all the time, despite the poor visibility, and it's starting to drive me nuts.

Today, as I went to pick up daughter, I was waiting on the overpass side of Cross Street with a red light. Just as my light turned green, a car to my left on Major Road completed its left turn onto the bridge side of Cross Street. Fair enough. It was waiting in the intersection, and because other Major Road traffic was driving through the yellow and even running the red, the car had to wait that long.

But then the car behind them, who had been behind the stop line, drove straight through the intersection, running the red light in front of me.

And then the car to my right on Major Road, also behind the stop line, cut me off to turn left onto Cross Street. I and the two people behind me honked, because by this point we were about to miss our own green light due to being cut off by illegal driving. Had I not already been going slow from the first red-light runner, the second one (turning left) would've hit me!

I hate last minute lefters and red light blowers. If you aren't going to make it and the roads are in good weather conditions, then STOP already.

I also hate people at 4 way stops who just follow the person in front of them, as if that person's stop was theirs as well, so you are stuck waiting for them, too.

What's been bugging me lately is rude mergers. Around here, it usually flows like this: line of people wanting to merge onto the main road from a side shopping complex. Usually those on the main road will let one car in, then go their merry way, then the next person behind them lets one in, etc....

In the last week alone I've slowed to let 1 person in, and the person BEHIND them has gunned their car to make it impossible for me to continue without hitting them, so I have to stop and let them in too. Can't you wait your freaking turn, moron?? Its people like you that make me (and others) less willing to be polite to mergers!!!
