The other day, I was on my way to drop my daughter off at the babysitter's before I went to campus for the day. My street intersects with University Parkway, but you can only make a right turn because a concrete median divides University Parkway. A block further up, University Parkway intersects with Market Street. So, I'm sitting in one of the left turn lanes on University Parkway waiting to turn onto Market Street as soon as the light changes.
This group of pedestrians wanders into the crosswalk. I don't remember if they had the Walk light or not because I never looked. However, watching lights and traffic on Market, I knew the light would be turning green for my lane and the other left-turn lane. These pedestrians were dawdling along crossing the crosswalk, so I knew they'd be blocking the lane by the time the light turned green. I was already cussing these idiots to myself, telling them to move their poke asses along.
I was on the inner left lane. Sure enough, the green arrow lit up while the dumbasses were coming across the left-turn lanes. The car to my right moved up a little closer, and then braked again because of the pedestrians in the crosswalk. I just sat still because I knew I wasn't going anywhere without hitting the dumbasses. The car behind me starts honking. I ignore it because I obviously can't go anywhere due to the pedestrians crossing in front of me, and they seem to be dawdling. I so wanted to flip the moron behind me the bird for being such an impatient jackass, but decided not to since I had my daughter in the car. Had I not had her in the car, I probably would have flipped them off for all the good it would have done. So, I sat there silently cussing both the pedestrians in front of me and the car behind me for being idiots.
I hate to think what kind of language my daughter will pick up from me in the car, but I do try to tone it down. However, I tend to cuss like a sailor at pedestrians who cross in the wrong places at the wrong times (which happens frequently on campus) and at other drivers on the road when they do stupid things.
Bonus sighting
I wasn't actually involved in this next one myself. However, I was leaving campus for the evening a few nights ago. It was starting to get dark, but there was still enough daylight to see fairly well. The parking lot I usually use is located along State of Franklin. So, once I navigate the maze of campus streets that finally leads out to State of Franklin, I turn right to head home from campus. Lake Street is the first major intersection I encounter when heading home. Lake Street is another entrance to campus, so there are a lot of clueless pedestrians who cross back and forth constantly since the University is on one side and a host of restaurants and some apartment complexes are on the other side. I don't understand why the pedestrians can't bother walking to one of the crosswalks or the skybridge, but they don't. So, it can be chaotic navigating into traffic on this section of State of Franklin sometimes.
So, I approach the Lake Street stoplight. I'd made it to the leftmost lane for straight-bound traffic. The light was red, so I stopped. Since I was stopped and knew it would be a couple of minutes before the light changed, I decided to change radio stations while keeping an eye on the light. Then, I noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye. I see a man on foot angrily beating on the hood of this vehicle in the right lane. The vehicle was turning onto Lake Street. I didn't see what initially happened, so I don't know who was at fault for the near miss. The man beating on the hood of this car is what caught my attention. The man then continued angrily across the crosswalk while the vehicle sped off down Lake Street.
