  • That was really stupid.

I was on my way home from work yesterday...made the supreme mistake of going to the grocery store after work on a Friday (the store itself was fine but getting there...oh geez...). So then I went home and as I headed down the road the person behind me was tailgating me (and I've been rear-ended 3 times, one of which totalled my car, so tailgaters really make me nervous/pissed). Anyway.

So I'm approaching the light in front of my apartment complex, at which I have to make a left turn. This is difficult at rush hour, as my apartment complex is just after where the road it's on splits off from another highway, which is a major commuter route from NYC. Translation, lots of traffic all coming from the opposite direction**. That time of day, you usually have to wait until the light turns yellow to make the left turn. So.

I put my turn signal on well before I got to the light, since this person (I think it was a woman but I didn't get a good look at the driver) was so close to my bumper. As I approached the light it was red, and there was a mid-size SUV and another car in front of that waiting at the light. I slowed down and the tailgater zoomed around me, got between me and the SUV, as the light turned green, and then decided she didn't want to wait for them to move, and zoomed around them both, passing them on the right (which is illegal) through the light.

    Idiot.

**I normally avoid making that turn and go in the complex from the back road behind it, since waiting for that left turn is extremely nerve-wracking for me, since the rear-ender that totalled my car happened while I was waiting to make a left turn as well. It was 7 years ago and any similar situation still makes me nervous as hell.
