  • Someone Almost Ran Into My New Car

    And it was a pedestrian!

So, it's dark out and I'm driving home from work. The driveway to reach my building is coming up, and there are a couple of idiots moseying across the street.

So, they get to the curb just as I'm starting to pass by and one of them ducks down to grab something that was on the ground.

He then proceeds to stand up and in the same motion turns around and starts walking back across the street!

He took absolutely no notice of the fact that I'm currently driving through the space he wants to walk through, and if I hadn't swerved, he would have bounced right off the side of my car.

He didn't even blink and just kept moving, nearly clipping the back bumper as he moseyed his way back over to the other side of the street and either the bar or the barber shop on the other side.

I knew the peds around here were suicidal, but that's the closest I've ever come to hitting one of them, and it's certainly the first time I've been in a situation where they would have been the one hitting me.

I think we can guess which.

      Not really.

I've noted that there is a distinct trend in my area for the locals of a particular social group tend to congregate at the local barber shops and just hang out. I suspect that there is often alcohol and other intoxicants being made use of at such times.

Pardon my interruption and ignorance but what the hell is a barber shop?

All I have ever heard of are salons, and one specific place in general is for guys where they play sports on several TVs and skanky looking girls work there and rub your boyfriend's scalp and flirt with him.

Because they don't have "sports on several TVs and skanky looking girls working and flirting there. "

We have quite a number of barber shops around where I live. I suspect it has a lot to do with the local demographics.

They seem a lot more prevalent in the south, then again most of the hair cutters (at least those that aren't national chains) double as social meeting places and women tend to go to beauty shops and salons, men tend to go to barber shops. This has become less common in the more urban areas but men are creatures of habit and older gents still keep to the barber shops, though they are slowly going by the wayside.

We actually have a local barber shop that does house calls. When I was still busing it, one of their guys would use the bus to get in to work, with his bike on the front and wearing the company vest.
