When we bought our new Jeep Patriot last year I was suprised to see it has the auto-on headlights,I think they can be disabled but I haven't bothered with it.No law in this state about daytime lights.

I don't think Bleu has automatic lights, I always have to turn them on myself. Unless I'm missing a setting or something.
Heck, I don't even have running lights. Neither does my mom's car (both of us have Hyundais). Maybe it depends on the manufacturer..

My car has automatic lights, which ir probably a good thing or I'd forget! I actually saw a black pickup pull into the lot the other night, late dusk, with NO LIGHTS ON. I looked at my co-worker and went "Seriously?" I mean..really? Dark=need for headlights. Common sense, anyone??"And though she be but little, she is FIERCE!"--Shakespeare

Auto headlights are easy to spot: There's a setting on the stem that says "Auto."
I find that with the auto headlights, I have to specifically turn them to the ON setting if it's foggy or rainy. I don't know how they work with the wipers going, however, as I haven't actually driven in the rain, yet.
I was worried I'd forget to turn them off when I had to turn them to ON this morning, but my car has the most irritating tone when you have the door open with the headlights on. >_< I definitely won't be leaving the lights on and running my battery down, even if I do forget to turn them off when I park.

My '07 RAV has daytime running lights, and they cannot be turned off, but I don't use them. I leave the mains on all the time. As soon as I hit the lock button on my key, the lights turn off.
A lot of states are going to the Wipers/headlights combo now. One of my parents' friends was pulled over in NY for not having the lights on when the wipers were going.
I'm just waiting for more states (like OH and NY) to follow PA's lead and require headlights in active construction zones at all times."If your day is filled with firefighting, you need to start taking the matches away from the toddlers…” - HM

I finally got a vehicle with running lights, so mine are compliant. I always turned my lights on when it rained, so people could see me, even if I couldn't see them.Quoth Geek King View PostOhio just passed that law last year, and it just came into effect this year. It didn't really matter to me, as I turn them on anyway.
I have yet to see or hear about anyone get a ticket for lights/wipers, but I still see SO many people without them on. Usually right as they come upon me in their rain-colored cars...

That's because people think, "I can see the other person, so they must be able to see me."Quoth idrinkarum View Post
But I really do think that when the weather gets bad, everyone has their brains put on autopilot or something.
Which is not true. The reason you turn on your head lights in the rain is to make yourself visible, not to see better yourself.
My Honda has fog lights that are on all the time. I recently bought it, so I'm still getting used to it. I've developed a tendency to forget to turn on my headlights at dusk
