My SO and I were driving home from Tarshea last night doing 45 in a 45 on a dark road near our house. I had turned off the high beams before passing a bus and a few seconds later I saw a pedestrian wearing all black, on her cell phone, looking at her feet, and directly in front of me crossing the road without a crosswalk. I slammed on the brakes as hard as I could and the car began to slide. Not 2 feet from her I jerked the wheel to the left as hard as I could and literally slid around her. I was so close to her I could see the "deer-in-headlights" look on her face. She had curly black hair and glasses and a look that said more like "what is going on?" than "Oh shit I'm going to die".
We were only 30 seconds from home so I pulled into our driveway and just sat there for 10 solid minutes going over what had happened. My thoughts went from "That was close" to "Oh my God I nearly killed someone" to "What the fuck is wrong with her" to "If I wasn't obsessed with driving I would have taken a life".
Also, not 1 minute after getting out of the car a police car drove by with it's spotlight on no doubt looking for some "maniac who nearly killed some moron". For the next hour my SO was paranoid and looking out the window and I was just shaken up. I needed to get that off my chest.

It's even worse when they're distracted and not paying attention to the traffic around them. Problem is, you'd be lucky if the courts actually held the moron accountable for her own actions should you have hit her.
