I was on my way home from school today and almost took out a car in the lane I was changing to.
The on ramp puts me on the freeway at the start of a bridge with four lanes of traffic. I was in the far right and needed to get over to the second from the left. I put on my signal and waited for a truck to pass to move over the first lane, then was going to move into the other - as soon as I started to merge there was honking and I quickly got back in the lane I was already in!
Now, I looked and saw no one before I started to merge - there is a small chance that I might have missed the car, but my blind spot isn't that big, and not an issue when I also look over the left shoulder. So, chances are they were either doing twice the speed limit for the bridge, or whipped over from the far left lane as I started to merge.
Scared the begeezus out of me, that was for sure!!!
