  • Disabled or lazy?

Back before the dawn of wide spreas cell phones I was a cart pusher.
I honestly feel that this was my favorite civilian job to date.

It was a slow day, nice out. Sun shining, birds singing, all in all a perfect spring day. There was a car that I had noticed driving around the parking lot for quite some time. At least 30 mins. Again.. its a slow day and there are many parking spots available. They finally see a couple so old they probably have dust in thier veens get into thier car that is in a handicap spot. They then pull up behind said couple and wait... and wait... and wait.... and wait. FOr five minutes waiting for the older couple to leave. My problem with this.

x is the old couple (who were some of the nicest customers ever) F is a free parking spot. Yeah.
They had to wait five minutes when there is an open spot right there.
Bonus: The driver of the car didnt appear to be disabled in the least (though I do understand that some disabilities are not obvious. But still. We are talking a car width in difference.

Could be lazy -- but you didn't say if the vehicle waiting was a van or not. Disabled people's vans often have side-facing lifts, so a regular spot just won't do. This is why I always try to park my wife's car in the disabled spots that don't have the striped zone on the right - that's for the lifts.

Now, if it was an ambulatory disabled person, that is just plain lazy. The driver side of the free spot is only 2 feet further away than the passenger side of the disabled spot! We often park in the nearest regular spot if the disabled spots are all taken.
I will not be pushed, stamped, filed, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own. --#6
